Freezer door gasket lost magnetism. Tim C. • Cumming , GA • August 20, 2017
The freezer door on my 12-yr old GE side-by-side refrigerator/freezer would not stay completely shut resulting in temperature variations and ice buildup from outside humidity seeping into the freezer compartment. These problems were exacerbated by the fact that this appliance is located in my garage in the heat / humidity of the Atlanta, GA area. I applied a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the gasket which improved the seal but did not completely solve the problem. I discovered that...

The Smooth Handle Kit is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. The kit comes with both the freezer and fresh food door handles and is black in color. The handles measure approximately 19 inches by 3 3/4 inches. Please note that the screws needed for installation are sold separately.
Symptoms of needing a new handle kit include:
- Handles that are cracked or broken
- Loose handles that do not secure properly to the door
- Worn or discolored handles that detract from the appearance of the refrigerator
Causes of handle degradation typically include mechanical stress from frequent use, accidental impacts, and environmental factors such as extreme temperatures or exposure to cleaning chemicals that can weaken the material over time.
This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Broken g e refrigerator door handle David B. • Lincoln , NE • June 30, 2014
With the help of AppliancePartsPros.com I was able to find my O.E.M. refrigerator door handle (which has now been discontinued by the refrigerator manufacturer, G.E.) at a much cheaper price than other websites offering either the same discontinued handle or the newer replacement. The door handle kit came with everything I needed to replace my broken refrigerator door handle. I just needed 1 Phillips screw driver for the 2 top screws holding the top of the handle to the refrigerator door and 1...

Water leaking from under/behind fridge (two sources) three problems a comedy of errors Joanne R. • Brookfield , WI • November 09, 2015
We noticed a puddle of water in front of the fridge a couple of months ago-dried the floor up both times and thought someone had dropped ice-or spilled water. A couple of weeks ago there was water dripping through the dropped tile ceiling in the basement. I shut off the water for the water supply to the fridge at the copper pipe in the basement and removed some of the tiles which felt a little damp. It still dripped all day. When my spouse came home he pulled down more of the tiles. It was as...

Freezer at 27 degree "f" and frig at 56 degree "f" too warm Jorge A. • El Paso , TX • May 20, 2018
I am a home owner with no technical experience on doing refrigerator failures diagnostic/repair. So, I look for internet DIY type of help describing the symptoms.
I found recommendations from Appliance Parts Pros going from the easy to the complex potential parts failures and decided to order the compressor start relay and the compressor overload.
While waiting for the overnight delivery, came to my mind and decided to look to the freezer compartment and found frost all along the coils panel....

Ice (broken seal) fizzer light out due to ice then auger motor auger coupler and solenoid cube failure Damon B. • Tumwater , WA • December 19, 2015
This was a two and half year issue as different things failed at different times. I would get one part, then another would fail. Ultimately, I got to a point where what failed, I hadn't been ordered the part yet.
The seal on the freezer door took three bathing's before it plumped up and un-creased. The directions on the box it is shipped in said to heat the seal up in hot water then cool it down with tap water. I didn't need to do that. It took a lot of massaging of the seal, but...

The evaporator coil kept getting heavily frosted and the compressor ran almost continuously Reid D. • Santa Maria , CA • April 01, 2016
The defrost heater element looked good and had continuity. The defrost thermostats checked good, so that just left the Defrost Module as the likely suspect. I installed a new defrost control module and thermostats. The thermostats were inexpensive and the old ones could have been intermittent,
The only "tricky" part was finding out how to get to the back screw that holds the main control panel. Discovered that the return air duct surrounding the control panel needed to come off. It helps...

Freezer very cold and fridge warm Randall S. • Pawcatuck , CT • October 01, 2014
Replaced defrost heater, temperature and defrost limiter thermostat. After taking the cover off the air chiller I found the coils frozen solid and defrosted it with a hair dryer. Once defrosted I remover the heater coil to test it it was fine, then I could see the defrost limiter was broken and as I put the unit back together I broke the heater tube (it is glass) so I ordered all the parts that might be defective and replaced them for less than the charge of having some one come to check it out.

BEWARE THE HAIRDRYER
In an effort to unfreeze the indoor water supply line with a hairdryer the extreme heat deformed not only the activator paddle but the housing that surrounds it. In the time it took to order and install replacement parts the frozen blockage had thawed. Back in business for now and if the problem
reoccurs I will be looking for a different path to resolve the issue.

The Light Socket is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is responsible for holding the refrigerator's light bulb and ensuring it receives power to illuminate the interior when the door is opened.
You should replace the light socket if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad light socket can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues such as short circuits or power surges, and corrosion from moisture exposure.
Symptoms of a bad light socket include:
- The refrigerator light not turning on when the door is opened
- Flickering or intermittent light operation
- Visible damage or corrosion on the socket
- The light bulb not fitting securely or falling out
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Refrigeration section too cold and freezing food Phillip D. • West Monroe , LA • August 03, 2014
I went on line and read your advice page. Based on that, I removed the damper assembly (six screws counting the miserable light fixture) and found the damper door broken as predicted. I went back to your page and ordered the new part. Nice breakdown to get number.
After that, I disassembled the damper assembly, found that the ABS plastic damper had broken from the actuator probably as a result of fatigue from cycling back and forth for twelve years. I used super glue to re-attach the damper...

The freezer was icing up around the door preventing it from closing all of the way John H. • Blooming Grove , TX • May 26, 2015
I checked the freezer and found the door gasket was damaged. When the parts arrived, I checked them for a good fit and the attachment method. Due to past experience of replacing door gaskets, I was expecting a lot of screws that would have to be removed and replaced. To my surprise, the gaskets pressed in place without tools and had a good and secure fit. The instructions the came with the gaskets suggested the hot water be used as needed to remove any kinks that might cause a poor fit. I...
