Richard R New Bern , NC September 21, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator GSL25JFTABS Frozen water line BEWARE THE HAIRDRYER In an effort to unfreeze the indoor water supply line with a hairdryer the extreme heat deformed not only the activator paddle but the housing that surrounds it. In the time it took to order and install replacement parts the frozen blockage had thawed. Back in business for now and if the problem reoccurs I will be looking for a different path to resolve the issue. Marilyn D Knoxville , TN February 08, 2015 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator GSH25JSTASS I melted housing shield and water dispenser lever with a hair dryer trying to melt an ice blockage in my ge fridge water dispenser Geez, I wish I had found this site first, I might not have done so much damage! First I thought I only melted the lever, ordered the part at my local appliance store - SECOND BIG MISTAKE, paid way too much for it. Took the front apart according to the amazing videos on this site and realized I had also melted the housing. Ordered it on Appliance Parts Pro- got the part in record time, watched another video and Voila!! Fridge is fixed. I will never use another site, and feel confident I can make many simple repairs to my appliances without the high service charge. I watched the short video on how to put it back together and I was done in just a matter of minutes. The video was such a big help. I forgot how the spring went on and was able to watch the video and put it back together in just a matter of minutes. I know I must have saved a couple of hundred dollars on a service call. Janie M Pasadena , CA February 18, 2015 Melted the water dispenser parts trying to unfreeze the water line Was an easy swap. Ordered the pieces, got them withing two days. Didn't realize a hair dryer would melt so much of the plastic pieces that I couldn't even see while trying to defrost the water line in the door. Next time it happens I will just empty the freezer and leave the door open for a few hours. Will save me from making this mistake again. Thankfully easy to replace the parts myself and not too expensive. Read More... 4 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: Less than 15 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
