We bought a new house that has a 15 year old GE Monogram built in fridge. The home warranty people sent two guys out saying it was nearly impossible to repair the fridge and they both suggested buying a completely new freezer door for the fridge and of course the warranty company said it was preexisting and we weren't covered. Shocker.
I have lighting in the freezer but not the fridge. I purchased a door switch and replaced the old one but that didn't do the trick. So i purchased a 2 amp fuse...

This OEM Replacement Part is a compressor overload that attaches to the GE refrigerator compressors. It acts as a safety switch, shutting off the compressor motor if overheating or excessive current draw is detected. This protects the compressor from damage. Over time, the original overload may malfunction, causing insufficient cooling inside the fridge. Replacing a faulty overload restores proper temperature regulation and food safety. This manufacturer-supplied part meets original specifications and may rattle slightly when shaken, which is normal.

The fix involved removing the two bolts holding the broken door stop and bolting in place the new stop. Unless you take the door off, you have to work by feel due to the position of the door stop and the bolts holding the stop in place. A little patience is all that's required. A flip lock designed to keep kids out of cupboards is now in place so the damage won't reoccur. But if it does, its a quick, easy and inexpensive fix.
