Planning to spend hundreds on a new washer and was pleased to discover the agitator coupling was the only thing wrong. Very easy repair. The only additional feature we would have liked was a softener dispenser. Hot Point Dryer Motor Kit
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WE17X10010

This dryer motor kit powers the drum and blower. Replacing a weak or failed motor restores proper tumbling and airflow so the dryer starts reliably and dries loads more evenly.

  • Drives the drum via the belt and turns the blower wheel for airflow
  • Helps resolve: dryer hums but won't start, drum won't turn, or stops mid-cycle
  • Can reduce loud buzzing/grinding noises from the motor area
  • Restores consistent operation when the motor overheats and trips its protector
What's included: 1 drive motor Install notes:
  • Disconnect power; turn off gas supply to gas dryers before servicing
  • Remove panels to access the drive system; release belt tension and remove the drum as needed
  • The blower wheel threads onto the motor shaft—support it carefully; many GE dryers use a reverse (left-hand) thread
  • Transfer wiring and any reusable hardware to the new motor; test before reassembly

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Motor was not working   Linn C. • Saint Augustine , FL • June 17, 2014

Replaced the motor with a new one, if I can offer any advice about doing this job, make sure to keep track of where each wire goes on the motor and whatever wires need to be disconnected. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge washer was shaking / vibrating excessively during rinse / spin cycle   Marcel S. • Orlando , FL • June 30, 2015

I replaced all 4 suspension rods and springs and now it spins very smooth. They weren't broken, just badly worn. It gave new life to my 15 year old GE Profile washer. They are basically springs, so they wear after a while. It was well worth the hour I spent fixing it. Hot Point Mode Shifter & Shaft Assembly
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WH38X10017

The Mode Shifter & Shaft Assembly is an OEM replacement part for GE washing machines. It is a mechanical component located inside the washer tub that allows for shifting between agitation, spin, and other cycles. The mode shifter and shaft assembly receive input from the control system to precisely change the operational mode at designated points in the cycle.

Causes of a bad mode shifter & shaft assembly include worn out or damaged internal gears, stripped or broken shafts, or a loss of integrity in components that restrict smooth shifting between modes.

Symptoms of a bad mode shifter & shaft assembly include:

  • Inability to start or change wash cycles
  • The washer getting stuck in one mode of operation
  • Grinding noises and vibrations during cycle shifts
  • Premature ending of cycles

This GE OEM replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer would not spin nor adgitate   Jeff A. • Stow , OH • June 28, 2015

Motor control board was flashing 4 times, indicating that the mode shifter had an error. I disconnected the mode shifter's wire from the controller and measured the resistance between the 2 leads with an ohmmeter. Since the reading was infinite, that meant that the mode shifter coil or in-line thermal sensor was electrically open, i.e. bad. As this fix is near a complete tear-down of the washing machine, here are a few tips I discovered. 1) the hub nut is difficult to remove and you need a... Read more
