Fix a dishwasher door that pops open during the wash cycle or won't stay closed. This latch secures the door and maintains proper sealing. DIY repair.
Tried bending the strike to get a firmer grip, but no luck. Replaced the door latch and strike. Washer is about ten years old. You can feel the new catch has a more positive engagement. When you replace the strike, be sure not to tilt it downward in front. It will go in the way but it will keep the door from closing. Not sure I needed to replace the strike but didn't want to risk more downtime. Read more

Dishwasher won't start or door won't stay closed? The door latch bracket secures the latch mechanism for proper door closure. 30-45 min DIY repair.
Our 7 y/o dishwasher wouldn't close and therefore we couldn't get it to run. I called several service places who charged $75-$90 diagnostic plus parts & labor, and they were not able to get here for at least a week. I knew it was going to run at least $200. I watched a couple videos on this site and YouTube and... Read more

First, just for safety sake, unplug the unit. I took the three screws out of the latch end of the door and pried both the inner (black) frame off and the outer (white frame) being careful not to crack the inner frame as I wanted to reuse it. I removed the screws holding the old handle on and reused them to fit the new handle to the new frame. I then had to take the glass from the broken frame, clean it, and reuse it on the new frame. You need clear silicone sealer to hold the glass firmly in... Read more
