Ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPros - super fast shipping, and even though I opted for regular shipping all of my parts arrived the very next day, including the big and bulky inner basket. Replaced outer tub assembly shell. AppliancePartsPros Video was outstanding and easy to follow. Removed outer shell prior to ordering replacement. Took about 2-3 hours off and on (ie. washer and dryer were stacked and I was working in a confined space). A lot of time was spent in cleaning up the washer, spyder etc. prior to installation. This repair went exactly as the video described. The video made it unbelievably easy. Took about 2.5 hours only because I scrubbed and cleaned all hoses and pars in and out. Our washer is 12 years old and had some build up. Seriously don't shy away, this was $250 with a new belt. Compared to a new front loader $1200-$1500, repairs the way to go. After almost 17 years, my washer began to sound like a jet engine was flying through the house, VERY loud during the spin cycle. The front bearings were shot, meaning the seal on the outer tub had failed. I first checked to make sure the washer was level. The washer is on a concrete floor. After watching lots of you tube videos I ordered all the parts that could be causing this problem. I ordered: Balance Ring, Suspension Pad Kit (3 rectangle plastic wear pads), Tub Suspension Pads(3 curved plastic wear pads), Suspension Spring, and a Spanner Wrench tool. Tore entire machine down to get to wash drum. Found it had a broken "spider" which is common with most front load machines. The drum is stainless steel but the spider is cast aluminum and it does not do well when exposed to laundry soap. It was pretty much disintegrated as a matter of fact. Anyway my machine is twelve years old and after some smooth talking, I was able to convince Whirlpool to send me a new wash drum at no cost. The main problem was fixing the inner tub. The "Spider Assembly" is attached with six screws, but the manufacture does not supply this as an individual part. This is good since the manufacture has a lifetime warranty in the inner tub. The manufacture supplied the inner tub. I purchased the outer front tub from Appliance Parts Pro. A fair price and excellent delivery time provided me with a quick up and run time to complete this repair. Read more

Posted my problem on APP's Question and Answer Forum. Was concerned about liquid trapped in top and bottom plastic rings of SS laundry basket when I removed it. Was advised by APP's tech service this was normal and is added during manufacturing to add weight to improve efficiency of spin cycle.
