This is the central wash-action component in select top-load washers. Replacing a worn or damaged agitator restores proper agitation so clothes circulate through water and detergent for consistent cleaning performance. What it does:
I have a 25 year old Kenmore washer that works well and didn't want to get a new washer as they don't make them like they used to. Upon removing the top cap of the agitator and doing an inspection, the agitator dogs were completely broken into pieces. This is an electrically operated water inlet valve assembly with a built-in vacuum break (backflow preventer) for a washing machine. It controls the flow of hot and cold water into the wash tub when the machine fills during a cycle. Replace this valve if the washer is not filling with water, fills slowly, continues to fill when it should stop, or if you notice water leaking from the valve area.
