Kitchenaid Defrost Heater, Icing Kit, Fountain Heater

Kitchenaid Defrost Heater (Evaporator)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP10428409

This evaporator defrost heater melts frost from the freezer coils during the automatic defrost cycle to keep airflow unobstructed and temperatures stable. Replace it if frost quickly returns after manual defrost or cooling performance declines. What it does:

  • Heats the evaporator at set intervals to clear frost/ice
  • Restores proper airflow to maintain consistent cooling
  • Common signs of failure include heavy frost on the rear freezer panel, weak airflow or warmer fresh food temps, longer run times, or the evaporator fan striking ice
  • An open reading on a continuity test indicates a failed heater
What's included:
  • 1 evaporator defrost heater
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Access the heater behind the freezer's rear panel; it mounts at/under the evaporator
  • Note wire routing and clip locations; transfer any reusable hardware from the original part
  • Avoid bending the element or damaging evaporator fins; fully defrost ice before reassembly

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The freezer section of an amana bci20tw was not getting cold enough and the back panel in the freezer was covered in ice   Jeff H. • Gettysburg , PA • January 27, 2025

After doing some research, I guessed it was either a faulty defrost timer, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, or some combination of those. Using part location diagrams for my Amana BC120TW I started by looking for the evaporator coils since they obviously weren't producing enough cold. Upon removing the evaporator coil cover, I found the evaporator coils frozen into 1 solid block of ice. Using a heat gun, I carefully defrosted the coils so I could access the defrost thermostat and heater... Read more

Kitchenaid Fill Tube Heater (Ice Maker)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WPW10554299

This fill tube heater keeps the ice maker's water inlet from freezing so your refrigerator can produce ice reliably. It applies gentle heat around the fill tube to help prevent ice blockages and water drips in the freezer.

  • Helps maintain consistent water flow into the ice maker during fill
  • Can address symptoms like no ice production, small/hollow cubes, or a frozen fill tube
  • Reduces leaks at the fill spout caused by ice blockage
What's included: 1 fill tube heater. Install notes:
  • Unplug the refrigerator and turn off the water supply before servicing.
  • Defrost any ice in the fill tube area; avoid sharp tools that can puncture plastic.

Kitchenaid Defrost Heater (Evaporator)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2000631

Defrost heater melts frost and ice from the refrigerator's evaporator coils so the cooling system can run efficiently. Replacing a failed heater restores proper defrost cycles and helps prevent frost-related cooling issues. What it does:

  • Heats the evaporator to melt accumulated frost and ice on the coils.
  • Restores normal airflow and consistent temperatures when frost buildup reduces cooling performance.
  • Common symptom linkage: visible frost or ice on the evaporator, long or continuous run cycles, or uneven/warmer compartments.
  • Works with the defrost thermostat and control to complete the defrost cycle.
What's included: One defrost heater. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before accessing the evaporator or heater — always prioritize safety.
  • Handle evaporator fins and the heater element carefully to avoid damage; follow OEM routing and attachment points.
  • Verify heater continuity and inspect the defrost thermostat and control before and after replacement; replace any failed defrost components as needed.
