SO I FIGURED THAT ALL THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF IT WERE FINE SO THE LOGICAL THING TO DO WAS TO REPLACE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WHICH CONSISTED OF THE THERMOSTAT {THE BRAIN} AND THE CONTROL MODULE WHICH I PURCHASED AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE . You'll need a screwdriver with one of those small square heads and a small socket wrench. Remove ice bin. Unscrew 2 screws on casing surrounding the ice box in order to lift it up and out. Remove 4 screws from plastic piece beneath the ice box that the coupling is mounted to and is part of the ice chute. The fridge is 20+ years old in a home we recently moved into. It sounded like a motor getting stuck on something or grinding weird... was hoping it wasn't something more serious. After doing all the tests to determine the problem it turned out that it was likely the motor in the ice maker. Rather than fix the immediate problem with a new motor and for just a few dollars more since they're prone to failure anyway, I eliminated potentially future problems by just replacing the whole ice maker. Money well spent and my part arrived the day after I ordered it. Read more

Replaced both inlet valves, no joy. Upon further inspection, found ice maker harness extremely tight at lower freezer door hinge, clamped in place right at a pivot point. Essentially the harness is held in place and rotates with the door. 6 wires broken inside. Splice repair and ice maker now works. Most likely will have to replace harness eventually. Unless there is more slack inside the freezer door this will probably happen again. Very poor design. Read more
