Kitchenaid Control Thermostat
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2315562

The Thermostat is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component is crucial for regulating the internal temperature of the refrigerator, ensuring that food and beverages are stored at the correct temperature for optimal freshness and safety. The thermostat monitors the temperature inside the refrigerator and signals the cooling system to turn on or off to maintain the desired temperature.

You should replace the thermostat if it becomes faulty or unresponsive. Causes of a bad thermostat can include regular wear and tear from frequent use, electrical issues, or exposure to extreme temperatures. Over time, these factors can lead to the thermostat failing to accurately monitor or control the refrigerator's temperature.

Symptoms of a bad thermostat include:

  • The refrigerator not maintaining the correct temperature
  • Food items freezing or spoiling faster than usual
  • The refrigerator running constantly or not running at all
  • Inconsistent temperature readings or fluctuations inside the refrigerator

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool side by side. Stopped cooling- both sides could use the temp control slider to restart (sometimes had to wait or would take multiple tries) would eventually fail again   Matt K. • Lancaster , NY • May 13, 2021

First I thought it was the defrost timer (talking to a friend). Replaced as $30+ dollar part and cheaper than a service call. Unfortunately, that did not help. Did some google searches and came across ApplicancePartsPros.com. They had a ton of useful information from chat availability to videos. Through the chat, we determined most likely it was the thermostat. I ordered it with expedited shipping and it shipped the same day and arrived earlier than expected. However, the part looked... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Erratic/warm temps sometimes worked fine but not reliably   Jennifer C. • Plainville , MA • June 15, 2015

My fridge was often reaching 60-70 degrees but would work well when motor/fans were running; it just wasn't cooling regularly. I checked the coils, defrost, damper, and fans, and they all seemed to work, so that only left the cold control in terms of what I was willing to try to fix. (It wasn't worth messing with the compressor as the fridge is 12 yrs old.) The fridge would sometimes kick on when I tapped the cold control knob so it was a reasonable - and, it turns out, correct - guess. I... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refrigerator and freezer not cooling.   Tom C. • Dorchester , MA • March 06, 2021

Tested start relay and fan with multimeter both passed. The condenser would start only if the thermostat was on the highest setting and the refrigerator would cool for a while, stop and not restart unless I adjusted the defrost timer. Decided to replace the thermostat, defrost timer and defrost thermostat. The refrigerator is working as expected. FYI on a Kenmore 59669142992 the defrost timer is located under the freezer in the front right. Read more
