Our Kenmore (Whirlpool) refrigerator's ice maker had stopped making ice. I changed the filter since it had been a long time since last being installed. Still no ice. I used a hair dryer to warm the water line entering the top of the ice maker in case it was frozen. Replaced filter cap with new one. The minor challenge was to find a method of pulling the filter out of refrigerator (which is normally done by pulling on the filler cap. The filter was recessed to far into the refrigerator for me to be able attach the new cap. I had to find another tactic to remove the filter. Ordered bar from ApplianceParts Pros and two end caps. Had to cut the bar to size create a new cutout for the end cap on the cut end, install the end caps and voila, now I can use that shelf again. There was a little tiny black part inside of where the water comes out. I took a photo of that part, then I studied the tech specs for the make and model of my fridge for almost 2 hours until I found a part that looked very similar to my photo of the little black part. Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy.
