The fridge is 20+ years old in a home we recently moved into. It sounded like a motor getting stuck on something or grinding weird... was hoping it wasn't something more serious. Replaced both inlet valves, no joy. Upon further inspection, found ice maker harness extremely tight at lower freezer door hinge, clamped in place right at a pivot point. Essentially the harness is held in place and rotates with the door. 6 wires broken inside. Splice repair and ice maker now works. Most likely will have to replace harness eventually. Unless there is more slack inside the freezer door this will probably happen again. Very poor design. Read more

I looked up the parts online at AppliancePros.com! To my surprise, the detailed drawings showed that I could replace the center rail (about $13) instead of the entire lower shelf (about $100)! I ordered the correct part. It was super simple. I removed the plastic light cover being held in with a Phillips screw, popped it out, exposing the faulty light panel. It unplugged easily. Plugged in the new panel and put the cover back on. Five minutes tops. Read more

The tech sheet test 56 said the motor wouldn't return to zero. I ordered the "Ice Maker Assy-Lp, and the Valve Assy-Water Dual". On my particular model the ice maker is in the ceiling of the refrigerator box. After removing the water filter and two screws around the drop down water filter door, the right side panel drops down by pulling it apart from 3 plastic pop-ins.
