The fridge is 20+ years old in a home we recently moved into. It sounded like a motor getting stuck on something or grinding weird... was hoping it wasn't something more serious. I ordered the correct part. It was super simple. I removed the plastic light cover being held in with a Phillips screw, popped it out, exposing the faulty light panel. It unplugged easily. Plugged in the new panel and put the cover back on. Five minutes tops. Read more

After doing all the tests to determine the problem it turned out that it was likely the motor in the ice maker. Rather than fix the immediate problem with a new motor and for just a few dollars more since they're prone to failure anyway, I eliminated potentially future problems by just replacing the whole ice maker. Money well spent and my part arrived the day after I ordered it. Read more

The timer knob simply pulls off the shaft with a solid, steady pull. Cleaned the timer cavity of lint/dust buildup. Aligned the keying flat of the shaft and knob and pushed the new knob on with careful, steady pressure until it was obviously seated. No tools required other than a vacuum. SO I FIGURED THAT ALL THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF IT WERE FINE SO THE LOGICAL THING TO DO WAS TO REPLACE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WHICH CONSISTED OF THE THERMOSTAT {THE BRAIN} AND THE CONTROL MODULE WHICH I PURCHASED AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE . The tech sheet test 56 said the motor wouldn't return to zero. I ordered the "Ice Maker Assy-Lp, and the Valve Assy-Water Dual". On my particular model the ice maker is in the ceiling of the refrigerator box. After removing the water filter and two screws around the drop down water filter door, the right side panel drops down by pulling it apart from 3 plastic pop-ins. The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above.
