This mechanical cycle timer regulates the sequence and duration of the washer's programs. Replacing a worn timer restores proper cycle advancement, helping the machine start, progress, and complete wash, rinse, and spin stages as designed.

  • Sequences power to the drive motor, pump, and water valves through each stage of the cycle
  • Advances the internal cam and contacts to move the washer from wash to rinse to spin
  • Helps with: cycle not advancing or stopping mid-cycle; won't start on certain settings; no agitate or no spin in selected cycles; knob won't turn or feels loose
  • Mounts in the control console and interfaces with the cycle knob
What's included: One mechanical timer assembly. Install notes:
  • Unplug the washer before servicing
  • Open the control console; remove the knob/dial and the timer's mounting hardware
  • Photograph or label wiring; transfer leads to the new timer one at a time to matching terminals
  • Reassemble, ensure the knob indexes correctly, and run a test cycle

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Washer) (Part Number: OEM18018630)

Sharon, It is possible that the timer is the cause for the failure but it could also be the motor. The motor runs at a lower speed on the delicate cycle than it does on the normal wash. This also includes the spin. You would want to check to make sure that the motor is getting power from the timer. If not then replace the timer.

Hello Gary. This is possible considering the delicate uses the slow speed in the motor. I would suggest replacing the motor and see if it solves the issue with the unit.

Hello Mandy, This does sound like a timer WP22001252 issue, but I would still check for voltage at the motor. If voltage is to the motor 12002353, the second speed winding could be bad. If no voltage to the motor, the timer is suspect.

Recently I've noticed that the washer does not always start after filling with water. At first, after a minute or so the machine would start agitating on it's own. Then I would have to turn the timer dial slightly (nudge it), but now I have to push the button in then pull it out to get it to start, sometimes several times and then hold it out. Also today I noticed that while pumping out the water prior to rinse, it just stopped without finishing the pump out/spin. As during the wash cycle, the timer was moving through the cycle but stopped it's action. I had to push in/pull out to restart. Is this indicative of a timer failing? Everything else seems to be working fine. My timer part # appears to be 6-2083430B which is different from your number. If I need a new timer, is yours a direct repalcement? Thanks.

Hello Henry, You may want to look for intermitent contact in the lid switch. Check for a switch that is opening during wash or spin. If the switch reads open when the lid is closed then it is bad. You may want to check when the unit is operating. Watch for loss of power to the switch.

Shauna, You're most likely going to need the timer WP22001252, but first check the yellow no.16 wire, and the black no.32 wire, from the timer down to the motor and make sure there are no loose connetions or damaged wires. If all's OK replace the timer

My washing machine stops in the middle of a wash cycle when there is still 10 minutes remaining on the timer. The washing machine has 3 different wash cycles, Regular, Permanent Press, and Delicate. Only the Regular wash cycle works when you start it in the maximum wash position at 19 minutes and continues to run down until about 10 minutes where the cycle terminates prematurely. The Permanent Press and Delicate wash cycle do not start at all and I think this is related to the duration of the wash cycles which are all 10 minutes of less. After the wash cycle terminates prematurely the cycle timer continues to advance through rinse and spin cycles with nothing happening until the final spin cycle where it drains the wash water and does the final spin. Are the problems I describe here symptomatic of a timer assembly that needs to be replaced? Thanks, Jimmy

Jimmy, First check the water level switch and air dome hose, WP208207 and WP22001619. If the air tube is clogged with debris, or the switch contacts stick in the full position, the circuit won't re set and allow the washer to fill for the rinse cycle, Then check the fill valve WP22001274 make sure you get a cold water fill and have plenty of cold water supplied at the faucet. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Roy. Take a putty knife on top of the front panel and release the 2 inner corner clips. Then pull out on the front panel and lift it off the top of the bottom frame clips. Use a shop vac and see if the tub to pump hose -called a -sump hose part # WP213045 is clear. Then make sure to remove the belt kit part # 12112425 off the pump and see if the pump part # WP6-2022030 is clear and the pump bearing is not frozen. Use drain-o in the standpipe while you are doing this to insure it is clear. Make sure the drain hose is no more then 6-8" into the standpipe and there is a air gap in between the standpipe and the hose to make sure there is no chance of a vapor lock. Look up into the outer tub while the sump hose is removed to make sure the is a complete path fort the tub to drain. Is the tub turning during an advanced timer spin ? Does the motor part # 12002353 reverse direction allowing the spin mode ? Does the timer part # WP22001252 send the 120 vac to the motor ? Use the wiring diagram in the control panel to assist. Let us know how to assist further. Thank You.

My washer never stops agitation to drain or spin unless I turn off the motor by opening the lid or pushing the knob in. Closing the lid or pulling the knob back out restarts the motor and the drain/spin starts when the timer is in the spin position. Also, the two speed motor will only run for about 15 to 30 seconds in the delicates cycle it will restart after about 3 to 5 minutes and repeat. I think this is due to the motor overload protector cutting the power to the motor. I found the Cam 6 contact (Motor - Regular Speed) contact stuck closed using a multi-meter and the cam follower bent upwards. I have ordered a replacement timer, but is there anything other than old age that may have caused this contact to weld closed?
