This timer is a direct-replacement control that advances cycle timing and sequencing for compatible appliances, restoring intended cycle progression and duration. Use it to replace a worn or non-advancing cycle timer. What it does:

  • Advances and times cycles so the appliance completes selected programs for the correct duration.
  • Controls sequencing between functions (start, run, end) to ensure expected operation.
  • Common symptom fix: cycles that won't advance, stop mid-cycle, or run for incorrect lengths.
  • Restores reliable mechanical/electrical timing when the original timer fails.
What's included: One timer assembly. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power (unplug or shut off breaker) before starting any repair to avoid shock.
  • Access typically requires removing the control panel; keep track of screws and wiring or photograph connections before disconnecting.
  • Handle carefully to avoid bending shaft/gear or damaging electrical contacts.

Hello! You will need to check the venting system to ensure it is not kinked or clogged. Also, you will need to test the temperature switch, heating element, and thermostats to verify which part is shorting and replace the defective part. Thanks.

Hello Scott. If the timer works in every other spot, but does not there, you will need to replace the timer WP305973. It is bad. Hope this helps.

Bruce for Model Number DE312

I have replaced the broken heater element in my DE312 Maytag dryer, cleaned all the vents, checked the cycling thermostat and hi limit thermostat and they show "closed", do not see any moisture sensor in the drum, tried a new timer, and I have even flipped the dryer breaker off and back on at the circuit breaker box and I still have no heat in the dryer. All wire connections look good. I also still think the dryer timer does not advance on the "Auto" settings. Are there any other sensors, breakers, fuses that I may be missing?

Hello Bruce. If the heating element is broke, you will need to order WPY303404. This way you will get new insulators as well. Hope this helps.

Bruce for Model Number DE312

Hi again, I installed the new cycling thermostat you sent with the 3 wire connection and this also did not fix the problem of the timer not running when on an auto dry setting between the "more dry" and "less dry" settings on the dial. It runs after you physically move it to the less dry setting and then shuts off. I have tried a new timer, new cycling thermostat, checked the wiring to see that nothing is pulled off or broken, looked for a moisture sensor inside the drum but found none. Is there something somewhere else I should be looking at?

Hello Bruce. You will need to remove the vent from the back of the dryer and run it with the vent unhooked. If it works properly, then there is an air flow problem. Hope this helps.

Bruce for Model Number DE312

Let's summarize where I'm at. I have Maytag electric dryer DE312. The timer does not move on the "Auto" settings between the "more dry" and "less dry". It does move on "timed dry" and on "Auto" only if you move it below the "less dry" setting and the dryer will shut off. I have tried a new timer and that didn't fix the problem. Reinstalled the old timer and then tried the cycle thermostat and you sent me item AP4037126 which only has 2 wire connections and my DE312 has 3, so could not install. Last suggestion from you was to clean the moisture sensor located inside the dryer drum. My dryer doesn't have this sensor. One of the fellows told me the 3 wire cycle thermostat for this model has been disconnected, however, I found a like thermostat on model DE612, actually 2 of them with the numbers AP4290671 and AP4290686. Do you think I can use either of these and also, do you think this part is my problem? The numbers on my old thermostat are 3-04475-2 and there is also L140-20F along with 3 other numbers being, 203371, 60T13 and 8742.

Hello Bruce. If the old cycling thermostat has the same numbers as the new one on our site, it should work properly. Hope this helps.

Hello Bruce! Have you tried to run the dryer on auto dry with the vent disconnected to see if the problem still persists? If the exhaust vent is too long causing it to have too many 90 deg turns or is reduced in diameter anywhere in the system it can cause the dryer to overheat and not allow the cycling thermostat to operate. You could have a bad cycling thermostat WP694674 or broken wiring from the thermostat to the timer. Hope this helps!
