The Door Interlock Switch is an OEM part for GE microwaves. It ensures the safety of the microwave by preventing the appliance from operating while the door is open. This switch is part of a microwave's safety mechanism, which includes multiple interlock systems designed to stop the generation of microwaves immediately once the door is opened, thereby protecting users from exposure to microwave radiation.
Signs that it's time to replace your door interlock switch include the microwave not starting or stopping unexpectedly, the microwave continuing to operate with the door open, or a failure to heat food even though the appliance seems to be running.
Symptoms of a bad Door Interlock Switch include:
- Microwave does not start
- Microwave stops unexpectedly
- The microwave operates with the door open
- Microwave turns on but does not heat food
This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

The self cleaning feature of my ge double oven hasn't worked in years and recently the upper oven baking element stopped working Robert A. • Enfield , CT • October 19, 2015
I wanted to get the upper oven baking element replaced; it hasn't been working for a few months. This double oven has had two other issues, there is a fan that comes on to cool the electronics panel, That fan has made excessive noise and it operates for 2-3 hours after the oven turns off. The other problem with the oven is the Self-Cleaning feature runs for about 15-30 minutes and then turns off with an error code. I've had a local appliance repair person in to address the error code and...

Igniter in my ge oven lasts about 1 year Robert W. • Washington , DC • October 24, 2014
After 5 igniter replacements, I've gotten pretty good at this. Less than 30 minutes start to finish -- including mopping under the range, etc. You need one hex driver for the whole job -- 3/8" I believe.
1. Remove all of the racks and the oven door. Remove the bottom panel inside the oven. Now unscrew the flame cover (4 hex screws), remove, and unscrew the old igniter (2 hex screws).
2. Pull the oven away from the wall. Be careful not to kink the gas line. Unplug the range. Remove...

CIRCUIT BREAKER OFF. Removed the back metal panel with my nut driver for the hex head screws. Note where the panel may slip under tabs for support. Remove slip on electrical connections on upper and lower elements. May need a pliers. The Bake Element is an OEM part for GE wall ovens and ranges. It generates the necessary heat through a series of exposed coils to bake and brown food consistently.
Symptoms of a failed bake element include:
- Inability to reach or maintain proper baking temperatures
- Burned-out coils causing uneven or sporadic heating
- Error codes relating to sensor detection of element issues
- Premature element failure can create a hazardous smell or smoke
Causes may be normal wear of the coil material over many use cycles in high heat. Without a functioning bake element, the oven cannot reliably or safely perform its baking function.
This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

GE range bake element exhibited hot spots Gary P. • Milo , IA • November 26, 2019
Replaced element. The new element was perfect. The shipping was perfect. Installation would have taken less than 10 minutes if the two range wires attaching to element had been 1 inch longer. Attached thin nosed vice grips to wires at spade terminals to facilitate attachment to element. The repair was simple enough but it would have been perfect if GE engineers had made wires 1 inch longer.

The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE electric and gas dryers. This safety component monitors the door closure, preventing operation if the door is not securely closed and latched. The switch measures 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
Symptoms of a faulty interlock switch include:
- Dryer failing to start or running with the door open
- Timer display not illuminated when start button is pressed
- Inability to open the dryer door during operation
- Dryer suddenly stopping mid-cycle before fully drying clothes
Causes relate to the internal component contacting the door frame over 50,000 open/close cycles potentially exposing wiring to wear. Regular cleaning the external switch area prevents dust or lint buildup skewing performance.
This genuine GE switch is compatible with Hotpoint and RCA dryers as well.
Note: Can be used as a dishwasher door switch on specific models. Check your model number for the most accurate results.

Melted door switch. Christopher K. • Greeneville , TN • February 03, 2024
The full story:
Dishwasher stopped running mid-cycle. When I first began troubleshooting I tried manually advancing the timer knob, and the machine would run. That led me to believe that the actual timer assembly was bad, so I replaced it. The dishwasher ran fine for a day, and then the same problem came back. This time, however, I also had to push in on the door to get it to run. I looked around online, and someone suggested that the door latch wasn't closing tightly enough. I adjusted the...

Symptoms of a bad dual element include:
- The element not heating up or only partially heating
