I loosened middle hinge by the 2 screws which holds a power cord that clips together, then slid the hinge flap upward to release from the door. My bottom clip hinge was broken away from spring and the only way to attach a new hinge clip was to carefully separate the hinge flap. The repair itself is pretty basic, remove broken parts and replace with new, but the process is much more challenging on the freezer door than on the fridge side since the water lines are routed through the hinge. Ordered the pieces from here. Downloaded the user manual. I never work on appliances but I couldn't justify the $200 a service tech would have charged to fix a $35 part. Followed the manual and removed the door. Replaced the broken plastic pieces. BE VERY CAREFUL not to strip the screws. I did and that's another story. Very easy to fix. You will need a second person to help guide the door back onto the frame. Read more

I replaced the hinge due to the hinge spring breaking. To replace the hinge you do the following: 1. Disconnect power to stove, either at circuit box or at outlet. 2. The replacement hinge unit arrived in just two days. The JennAire (Maytag) oven door is fairly typical in that it easily lifts off of the hinge bars. Once the door is off then removing two screws is all that's required to remove the hinge unit from the oven.
