• Door won't close

I found the door switch was not making contact when the door closed. I adjusted it, but then it would not open so the dishwasher would run when the door wasn't closed. The contacts were too long in the switch so they would bend and stay together when the door opened. The original switch was very poorly made for a very expensive Maytag dishwasher. Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle. Read more

Tried bending the strike to get a firmer grip, but no luck. Replaced the door latch and strike. Washer is about ten years old. You can feel the new catch has a more positive engagement. When you replace the strike, be sure not to tilt it downward in front. It will go in the way but it will keep the door from closing. Not sure I needed to replace the strike but didn't want to risk more downtime. Read more

Our 7 y/o dishwasher wouldn't close and therefore we couldn't get it to run. I called several service places who charged $75-$90 diagnostic plus parts & labor, and they were not able to get here for at least a week. I knew it was going to run at least $200. Removed control panel where latch and handle are located beneath. Removed front cover plate of dishwasher to reach last handle screw and removed a wire connector to the latch. Then replaced parts in reverse order of disassembly. Read more

Our Kitchen Aid mixer was shipped without a handle on the arm that raises and lowers the bowl. Apparently it was a cost savings measure on some models. Kitchen Aid support was no help. The plastic latch handle on my son & daughter-in-law's dishwasher. While taking off the control panel to look at the problem, I found out that a couple of the post holes in the control panel were broken. If you need to do this, you'll need a small Allen wrench to remove the top 6 screws from the inside of the door and a screwdriver or other tool to help pop some of the plastic clips on the door latch bracket and control board cover.
