My Mom's Kenmore had a burnt plastic smell after a thunderstorm. Found motor capacitor had melted through, dumping liquid platic "spaghetti" onto the insulation blanket under the washer. Replaced clutch assembly, gearcase input shaft seal and motor coupler. When I disassembled the washer I realized the shaft seal on the top of the gearcase was leaking and not the input shaft seal. So had to order more parts before I could finish this job. Altogether I replaced agitator dogs, both seals on the gearcase, the clutch assembly and the motor coupler. Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle. Read more

I pulled the unit away from the wall and noticed black dust on the floor. Unplugged the unit, turned off the water. Removed back panel (about 10 screws with Torx heads) and noticed the belt was off, the drive pulley was loose and wobbling on the shaft, black dust all over the inside. Belt was worn along one side. Took the old part off and fitted the new one. I used the old plastic ball from the old hose and it worked fine. Next time I would replace the original clamp with a 4 inch hose clamp. The original clamp is way tooooooooooo hard to put back on....with a different clip it would be a 10 minute job at most. Read more
