Discovered that the old part had broken, preventing the door from leveraging closed into the bearing valley. Metal-on-metal rubbing was also a clue.
Pulled the old piece out of the hole (only the shaft remained) and popped in the new bearing. Took all of 10 minutes, and everything works great now.
