Turned out the little switches on the knob shaft had corroded and were staying on. There was constant continuity showing with an ohm meter. Replacing the switches was very easy (always disconnect power to the unit before servicing). Bought a new ignitor module as a backup as they do go out of production after 10 years or so- another cheap and easy fix if needed in the future. Read more

I broke two of the elements in my GE Profile cooktop because I failed miserably at removing the glass top. It pays to do your research, kiddies. All it takes is a Number 10 Torx bit to remove 12 screws holding the glass to the body of the appliance, and it lifts straight up. I was replacing the glass because it broke during my home's construction. Repair was really simple. Removed power from stove to insure igniter would not fire. Removed parts to gain access to 2 screws securing burner bowls to stove top. Removed screws. Lifted up burner bowl and disconnected igniter wire from igniter and removed old burner bowl seal. Transferred igniter to new burner bowl and installed new burner bowl seal.Connected igniter wire and secured burner bowl assembly to stovetop with screws. Replaced parts removed earlier.
