Disconnected ( already tripped) breaker in the panel. Lifted cooked top unscrewed the glass top and set aside. I took the picture of the wires connected to the control on my ipad and replaced broken control. reconnected the wires as per picture. Cleaned the greased glass top and replaced the infinite switch seal for the broken control. Then reinstall glass top back on the cooktop and put the cooktop back in in place. A very common problem with the GE oven is the dreaded F7 error code. I purchased the control board as well as the keypad and replaced both. The error code could have been either part but since I saw a lot of grease, I chose to change out both even though I isolated the problem to the keypad only. By resetting the error first by hitting the clock button on the keypad, turning off the power,disconnecting the keypad, then turning back on the power if the code doesn't come back it's the keypad. ... My 1984 GE Electric Stove model number was very close to an another entry, but not actually in appliance repair pros' model numbers list. I bought the replacement knobs from Appliance Parts Pros.com and they were much better knobs that what originally came with the unit. They are actually metal and the plastic posts that connect with the range are a much higher grade plastic. To be honest I think the stove works better than it did when it was new. Some of the original knobs may have been broken when we purchased the unit. Replacement took under 5 minutes for all of the knob. Oh....and by the way....they appear to be the same... Read more

I examined the inner burner heads and determined that two of the most frequently used burners were warped and were not making good contact with the burner base. It's a GE Profile series stove about 10 -12 years old. I checked the GE Parts website, and they wanted almost $100 for the large burner head but didn't even have the small one at all, saying it was no longer available. Worst part of job was sliding stove out from wall. Remove 4 small screws from shield on top of stove, disconnect two connectors from switch rocker, push lock tabs inward so you can push switch rocker outward from back toward burners threw frame of stove, insert new unit until click locks, reconnect wires, and reinsert shield back on top stove and secure with 4 screws removed earlier.
