I replaced defrost timer (which I am glad I did because of wear on the points) but that did not cure the problem. So after checking other components, I found that the temperature control was the culprit. No problem, I will simply order part # 2162521100. Well Frigidaire decided to obsolete that part and "Has not provided an approved substitute". So, I have to scrap this freezer and pay $800 to $900 for a new one? Not! Removed the freezer shelves and back panel, evaporator coils were frozen with ice. Defrosted coil and removed defrost heater connectors, measured no continuity in the heater and ordered a replacement. Also discovered the aluminum retention strap was broken and the heater had slipped down in it's position, ordered and replacement strap. 1) disconnected motor from electrical supply. 2) undid housing brackets with a socket wrench. 3) undid two screws to remove motor and fan from housing. 4) pried fan off motor. 5) placed fan onto new motor. 6) put fan and motor back into housing. 6) put housing back with two screws from step two. 7) reconnected electrical supply from step one. Purchased a replacement COMPRESSOR. The compress or was a replacement for MFG. P/N 5304478809. The compressor was not an exact replacement. There was no port identification so the connections took a lot of time searching the net and then only the suction port was noted. I had to operate the compressor to be sure of the discharge port.The start relay on the original had no power plug as the new one did so had to improvise by cutting the wiring and adding 1/8 push on clips and then sliding on to... I took off the back cover of the range. I then took out the bolts which had held the control board in. I placed the control overlay on the new control board, and then plugged it in. I bolted the control board in place and replaced the back cover. For $135 in parts and 15 minutes of labor, I did what the appliance repair company wanted to charge me $500 for. Read more

My only problem was I didn't have the part in stock. I do maintenance at a 150 unit Apt. complex. The fridgidare model we have all 3 shelves are different. This repair was so simple a 2 year old could do it. The rest of my order was for stock. Things get broken quit often at work which is good for job security. Read more
