Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Broken fins on agitator   Annetta H. • Crane , MO • September 23, 2014

This was a fairly easy fix. The only problem I had was that the cover over the retaining nut was difficult to pull off. I changed to a larger pair of pliers and put a little more muscle to it and it popped right out. There was a little corrosion on the shaft that needed to scraped off for the new agitator to slide on easily but after that was gone the new part slid on and with some downward pressure it seated in. Kenmore Washer Agitator
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10908289

Fix a washer agitator spinning freely or not turning clothes. This part restores washing action. Moderate DIY—bolt removal can be tricky if worn.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Agitator was spinning freely and not working.   Darren M. • South Bend , IN • August 15, 2019

Replaced agitator and washplate bolt and washer. Normally this would have been a 5 min job, however the bolt wouldn't come loose. The teeth on the agitator were worn down and the shaft the bolt screws into would turn with the bolt when trying to loosen it. I had to cut out the agitator using a dremel and hold the shaft in place with a vise grip in order to unscrew the bolt. Once the bolt was out I used WD-40 to help get the agitator off the gears. Job took much longer than normal, but I... Read more

At first, I thought, maybe I should just get a new washing machine. After all, it is almost 20 years old! I couldn't bring myself to do that and said to myself, let me see if I can figure out what parts I need and see if I can find a video that tells me how to do it and see how hard it is. I’ve never attempted appliance repair before. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool LSQ8000 clothes mover (upper agitator) not working correctly   Tom L. • Minneapolis , MN • March 10, 2018

I had replaced the Agitator cams a couple of times already due to my brother-in-law overloading the machine which stripped the teeth off of the cams. I also noticed the agitator seemed to 'wobble' and made 'knocking' noises quite a bit. I reviewed the video on the Appliance Parts Pros web site, disassembled the agitator and cleaned everything up, which helped a little, but not enough. Figuring the agitator itself was worn out also, I looked up and ordered all the parts for the upper agitator on... Read more

A buddy of mine gave me a washer and said if you can fix it you can have it, It doesn't spin. I tried running a spin cycle and found that it did try to spin but was very noisy. I disassembled the washing machine and found that the tub seal had gone out and took out the bearings with it so I ordered a new tub and seal kit and while I waited for that I proceeded to disassemble the rest of the washing machine and clean everything so when the new parts arrived it was ready and waiting. My wife noticed that our washing machine was making a terrible rumbling noise and seemed to be out of balance all of the time. The teeth in the agitator were stripped out so by simply ordering a new agitator and installing it I turned a $250.00 repair call into a $70.00 DIY fix. Thanks. Read more

I have a 25 year old Kenmore washer that works well and didn't want to get a new washer as they don't make them like they used to. Upon removing the top cap of the agitator and doing an inspection, the agitator dogs were completely broken into pieces.
