I replaced the part by popping off the plastic frame and removing several easily-accessable screws. Three small electrical plugs had to be popped off too. It was a very simple repair. Unplug fridge. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the single screw underneath the display. Also under the ledge you will see two slots - one on each side of the forward part of the ledge. Insert a flat-head screw driver and twist (either way) to release the plastic tabs. Once the tabs release you can pull the whole thing loose. Unplug the wiring connector and set the display face aside.

The ice chute flap wasnt closing.
1. I turned off power
2, Pulled off facia around controls on freezer door,, you have to pull out the bottom part of the chute first , its clipped in
3. Disconnected the front panel
4. Unscrewed the next panel to allow access to the chute flap
5. Removed 1 screw holding complete flap and mechanism and replaced with new
6. Re installed all parts in reverse

Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle.

Replaced the actuator pad on the Whirlpool Gold Series, releasing the electronic menu pad to get to the water activator pad was the biggest hurdle.
