Refrigerator Ice Maker & Related

I broke the ice bucket when the problem first started as I kept trying to get the ice out of the dispenser. I replaced the Icemaker Asembly in less than 5 minutes, 1 screw and that was that. Everything works great and my dispenser is back in action. I did have a repair man come out to correctly diagnose the issue as the parts were expensive and I wanted to make sure it was not a leak somewhere, but indeed the mechanism. My fridge was too cold - everything was freezing solid, even in the produce bins. The air from the diffuser vent was constantly running. After unplugging the fridge and plugging it back in, the diagnostic code on the control panel indicated that the air diffuser was not working. I purchased a new air diffuser, watched the very helpful video that showed how to install it, and replaced the part in about 10 minutes. Had to replace the auger. The auger on my ice maker was made of plastic and had broken pieces off it. The new one is made of metal and seems to work much better. Was a fairly simple repair. However pay close attention when disassembling, I recommend using your cell phone and snap a pic of the different stages as I became a little confused when putting it back together. Replaced the parts. Initially, in order to ensure the ice maker itself was still working, I did some repairs to test it. I repaired the cracked crusher cover with a plastic welder, I also repaired the glide bucket Lh with the plastic welder & some epoxy. I attached the broken ice stripper pieces with the plastic welder. If the ice maker made ice I knew it was safe to buy new parts. Purchased Appliance Parts Pros replacement ice maker, removed the defective unit, matched the proper wiring harness using the wiring color codes at the P and J side connectors. Approximately 1 hour following the installation, I delightfully heard the first set of cubes ! Read more

My problem started with a rusting condition in the ice bin that spiraled out of hand. I took apart the ice bin and all the hardware thinking I could clean it with the suggested baking powder. Plastic parts cleaned up like new, metal parts were pitted. I wire brushed and sanded the parts put it all back together and gave it a try.
