The Transmission is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This integral component is at the heart of the washing machine's operation, translating the motor's power into action by driving the agitator and spinning the drum. 

Regular inspection and maintenance can prolong the life of the transmission, but if these symptoms occur, it may be time to replace this critical component. 

Symptoms of a bad Transmission include:

• The washing machine making unusual noises during the wash or spin cycles, such as grinding or whining sounds.
• The washer failing to agitate properly, affecting the cleanliness of the laundry.
• The drum not spinning during the spin cycle, leaving clothes wetter than usual.
• Leakage of transmission fluid beneath the washing machine.

This agitator drive shaft sits inside the washer's gearcase and transfers motion to the agitator. Replacing a worn or stripped shaft restores firm engagement and reliable wash action while helping reduce slip and grinding during agitation.

• Transfers oscillating motion from the transmission to the agitator
• Provides the splined interface that engages the agitator/coupler
• Common symptoms include no agitation, intermittent/slipping agitation, or grinding/clicking from the gearcase
• Visible wear, rounded splines, or a bent shaft can lead to a loose or non-moving agitator

• Disconnect power and water; use proper PPE
• Requires removing the cabinet and gearcase; drain and reseal the gearcase per service procedures
• Keep gears, spacers, and clips in order; reassemble in the original orientation
• Inspect mating parts (agitator coupler/splines, drive block, seals) and replace if worn

This transmission pinion is the small drive gear inside the gearcase that meshes with the mating gear to transfer motor power through the drive. Replacing a worn pinion restores smooth operation and reliable torque delivery.
