Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer was super loud in spin cycle & started to leak from bottom   Patrick P. • Eustis , FL • February 11, 2015

After about 6 months of use with our Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine it started to sound extremely loud in the spin cycle, we should have called Whirlpool at this point to have it looked at under warranty. Fast forward 5 years later our loud washing machine ended up leaking out the bottom, we had a local service company come out to take a look at doing the repair and they quoted $800 to replace the outer tub assembly. I was not going to pay $800 and figured that most likely we would purchase a... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Noisy bearings   Gerald D. • Belle Vernon , PA • October 18, 2014

Repair went fairly smoothly by following the EXCELLENT how-to video provided. I had only a few issues and suggestions. 1. Because many of the screws and fasteners are of multiple sizes, I would recommend laying them out in a muffin tray or on a paper with labels for where they go back. 2. After removing the weights and prepping to remove the shock absorbers, after the front ones were removed, the tub tilted so far the rear shock absorber separated. The friction pads fell out. It was easy... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge washer was very loud during spin cycle   Vincent B. • Merrick , NY • January 31, 2016

After researching the problem on this site, I realized that the most likely cause was a bad bearing contained in the shaft & tube assembly. Essentially, the tub seal failed & allowed water to travel down the shaft & into the housing containing the bearing. I confirmed this by pulling the front cover off of the unit & noticed some brown water pooled directly under the shaft & tube assembly. I followed the disassembly instructions on this site & it wasn't too bad but did take some time as pretty... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge washer making loud roaring noise during spin cyc;e   Gerald P. • Auburn , GA • January 28, 2018

I had never worked on a washing machine before but after watching the online videos I felt like I could do the repair. I was almost positive it was the Mode Shifter and Shaft Assembly that was bad. I could hear the bearing making a grinding noise when I turned the tub by hand. I ordered the part I needed plus additional parts that could be an issue later such as a drive belt, tub bearing, tub seal, tub nut, split ring, etc; Preventive maintenance that would keep from having to tear it all... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer squeaked when tub is stopped during spin cycle   Daniel K. • Grafton , WI • July 22, 2018

My Maytag washer make a loud screech when the washer tub needed to be stopped by the brake. Last year, I had replaced the suspension springs, the snubber ring, the drive belt and the drain pump. Those repairs worked fine, but a few weeks later, the screeching noise started. So I figured it was the brake system. I thought it would be better to replace the brake rotor and stator together as a set since I was going to disassemble both and they were 18 years old anyway. I decided to replace the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leakage from tub seal   Gabriel S. • Petaluma , CA • March 15, 2015

I ordered the tub seal and stem seal kits along with the much needed spanner wrench. After viewing the video online several times and taking notes along the way I was ready to tackle the repair. After taking everything apart, I cleaned all areas thoroughly then addressed the rusty areas and mineral deposits found in the tub. Soaking the tub in vinegar and baking soda overnight helped loosen the built up deposits enough so I could carefully scrape them off with a spatula. This was very time... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool direct driver washer leak caused by basket drive shaft wear   Philip L. • Columbia , MD • November 15, 2019

In reality, this turned into a full-on rebuild project - with several parts orders, not just a simple repair. But I have to give credit: The parts listings with pictures on the AppliancePartsPros web site were really useful in figuring out what was going on inside the machine, and what parts I would need. Also: The repair videos were critical for me to be able to ensure I was reassembling everything correctly. Shout out to Simon, who was featured in several of the repair videos. His "gorgeous... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Noisy spin cycle   Gregory E. • Halifax , PA • April 17, 2017

I just wanted to put my experience here for all to see. I have a Maytag Neptune, MAH5500BWW, one of the original ones. I bought it back in 2002 and it has done many many loads of wash faithfully. So when the bearings started to get loud I thought it best to replace them, the seal kit and the belt. I did my research as best I could and decided to order the OEM parts from an appliance supplier. If you are replacing the bearings, watch on line videos prior to performing the job. It will... Read more

First, DO NOT call Sears for parts, their call center knows nothing about the product. App-Pros are the best for help and the right parts. I figured to repair, replace all seals and any item that shows need to and all items that have to do with the spin that may be bad. Repair videos great help. I will start from the "bottom" up, the repairs were not done in this order, just a list of what I did and notes. Replaced-- motor drive coupling, (checked out transmission ok), thrust washer,...
