This assembly includes the housing and door that enclose the lint screen filter compartment on the top or front of the dryer. It provides access to the lint filter for cleaning and keeps the filter securely in place during operation. Replace this part if the door is cracked, broken, won't stay closed, or if the housing is damaged and no longer holds the lint screen properly.
Open dryer door. Remove four Phillip head screws that hold lint assembly together. Two inside and two on the outside. There is also a hex head screw behind the front panel. To get at it I removed the four hex heads at bottom of front panel and four star head screws on left side of front panel. I was able to get at it by pulling the front panel out as much as possible and and reaching from the side with small quarter inch socket. Used multimeter to diagnose no continuity through heating element. Took out element and found underwire from a bra (C-cup I think...) had shorted it and caused a break. This electric drive motor rotates the dryer drum and in many models also powers the blower fan to circulate heated air through the drum. It mounts to the dryer base and connects to the drum via a belt and to the blower via a direct shaft connection. Replace it if the dryer hums but won't turn, makes loud grinding or squealing noises, or fails to start altogether.
If I opened door and held door switch, started dryer, turned drum by hand, quickly closed door and pushed start again before drum stopped turning, dryer worked fine. Apparently the part of the motor that gives it more juice on start up went bad. Ordered motor on Monday, received on Wednesday. Blower wheel would not come off the shaft of old motor, chiseled off as shown in motor installation video.
