This chain brake is made to connect above the drum of a chainsaw. It has a metal band that goes around the drum and a handguard that also connects to the brake. When the guard is pressed forward, the brake band tightens on the clutch drum, making the chain stop immediately. The brake is pre-assembled and consists of both metal and plastic parts. The spring, brake band, and linkage are all metal, and the housing is plastic. A common chain brake problem is the brake band becoming worn out or damaged. This causes the brake to no longer stop the chain fast enough or at all. This can be incredibly dangerous, so it’s important to check the brake regularly. Installing a new chain brake is straightforward with this genuine OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer. Just remove the clutch cover assembly, take off the old chain brake, and screw in the new kit. Be sure to wear gloves and let the engine cool completely before making repairs. Took the side cover off, noticed the chain brake assembly was damaged from the heat. Also after removing the clip securing the clutch drum I couldn't remove it. Had to use my biggest flat head screwdriver to force the drum off. The inner bearing was shot and the outer rim was worn with a lip on the bottom, reason it wouldn't come off the clutch. This is a brake pad. The brake pads attach to clips and serve to stop the mower. The pads push against the rotors and cause friction, allowing the mower the stop movement. Worn-down brake pads can be hazardous to the rider and the mower. There are several signs of worn-down pads. There may be a squeaking or scraping sound coming from the wheel area. If the problem persists, a noticeable grinding sound can even be felt when the mower is driven.Replace the pads by removing the wheels. The pads are attached to calipers that fasten to the rotors. These are removed with a socket wrench. After removing the calipers, there are clips that fasten the pad in place. Push these clips and remove the old pad. Repeat these steps in reverse to install the new pads.This product is a genuine OEM part and is sourced directly from the manufacturer.
