Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. Got the six year old refrigerator from my daughter because of it freezing up but was in good ( Stainless Steel) shape to replace our 21 year old Kitchen Aid. Dishes were 'gritty' with an almost invisible coating of specks smaller than grains of salt. Initially I noticed the crusher drum was cracked and broken so I replaced the drum the retaining nut on the end of the auger and the circlip and washer. it worked fine for a time and then the drum began free wheeling. upon further inspection I discovered the retain nubs on the auger had worn down allowing the blade to slip down the auger body. so I replaced the auger, drum, drive blade, and drive cam. The part just snaps on the basket. You have to remove the clips on the end of the runner arms to be able to remove the basket. Once it was out the old arm snap off and you snap on the new arm. Only problem was my old arm was fine and I wished the company would just sell the gasket. It seems a waste to have to purchase the whole arm. Replaced both The electrical board I found under the fridge was very easy to replace. The fan motor took a minute to bed puns and the biggest challenge was taking off/on the back panel to get to it. (By the way it was located in the freezer section. take drawers out to get to it. Read more
