Dryer Burner & Related Parts

• Timer will not advance
• No heat or not enough heat
• Shuts off too soon
• Takes too long to dry

I'm starting with a quick background on my dryer. About 18 months ago the belt on the dryer started slipping and squealing. I had a can of belt dressing spray so I popped the top open and sprayed the belt. It actually worked for about a year before it started squealing again. Being a complete DIY I hate to call some unknown person into my home knowing that just to get them there will cost me more than I will spend for parts that I don't need.After all, they are trying to make a living and by selling me parts that I don't need will increase their profits. I checked out a few youtube videos on trouble shooting a gas dryer that would not heat, like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8j6fQM3P34. Eliminated all the sensors as possible problems, leaving only the coils or more advanced problems. Took the chance it was one of the coils. I ordered both, replaced them both, put the dryer back together and fortunately that was the problem and it lit up and is running as good as new. Read more

Ordered conversion kit from Appliance Parts Pros.com and installed it myself. Most difficult part of the repair, was the removal of the front casing of the dryer to access the location of venturi tube to be changed out. The instructions were helpful, but not specific enough for my dryer. Once the casing was off, the job was not too difficult - you will need a set of short screwdrivers to remove the burner flange and close the pressure adjustment screw, normal length screw drivers will come into... I searched the internet and found the conversion kit to LP gas at Appliancepartspros.com. their price was the least expensive. The instructions were excellent in describing the removal of the nat. gas orifice and replacement with LP orifice. The part was delivered 3 days after ordered by Fed Ex., a speedy delivery! Removed LP Orifice and LP Gas limiter. Orifice was easy, however the gas limiter was the tricky one because I had no instructions to what went where. I could not find anything online as to how to convert from LP to Natural Gas, but you could find several things as to how to convert from Natural to LP. I ended up finding the Dryer schematic on line for the Whirlpool Duet natural gas dryer and was able to figure out what sequence the Spring, regulator and limiter went in. The order I just... Confirmed parts needed through online chat with tech and followed video instructions for dryer conversion. Found a video online for range conversion. Replaced orifices for stove top and adjusted oven burner orifices and air shutters and inverted pin in pressure regulator to natural gas position. All went well with no problems, about an hour and a half to gather tools and complete both jobs. Probably could be done faster but I was taking my time. Read more

Unfortunately my first repair attempt (replacing the Gas Valve Coils) failed so I decided to replace the entire Burner assembly. From a cost/time point of view the Burner assembly is a better value than just buying the Gas Valve seeing as you don't have to disassemble/reassemble most of the existing Burner (to get to the Gas Valve) *and* you get a new Igniter!!
