After taking the timer apart to see why it would not turn I found the timer motor was jammed. Taking the motor apart I found a broken gear. The selector knob and timer quit working on our GE dryer. We noticed the plastic selector knob was cracked inside when we pulled it off. We decided to order a new timer along with the selector knob just in case the new knob didn't solve the problem. Easy fix, first I unplugged the dryer. Then removed the 6 Philips head screws on head unit back panel. Photographed wiring on timer. Removed the 1 torx screw holding the timer assy in place, the front panel knob was already off, would no longer stay on. I replace the old timer with the new one I purchased from appliance parts pros.com I removed the nuts from back of top console of the dryer. Removed the electrical prongs from the old timer and then replace with new timer than plug dryer in wall and started the dryer on timed cycle and the heating elements kicked in and my wife was smiling from ear to ear. I first received the quality parts in less than 2 days. It took me 5 minutes to change out the timer and 2 of the minutes were finding where my fiancée put the Phillips head screwdriver. Unplug dryer first, remove top three screws from back panel. Pull old timer up and out, have new timer in hand and transfer one wire at a time.
