• Timer will not advance

Just as the folks in the comments section said, I tested everything to make sure the timer had power which it did. I then tested with the OHM tester and saw that the switch was open when the timer was set to any drying cycle. So i changed the timer and voila! timer is functioning again. It was a very easy fix. On/Off switch was not working on our GE dryer. An appliance repair person told me he would charge $350 for the part and service. I ordered two new baffles and 7 screws. I also ordered 6 large washers. We were running with one baffle held by only 2 of 3 screws. It appears that a repairman in the past had removed the large washers and over time, the screw heads reamed out the hole, causing the baffles to detach and break. In about 15 minutes, I was able to tighten up the existing baffle and add the two new ones. I also added the 6 big washers to help strengthen this to prevent future issues. Removed lid. Removed switch panel. Suspected open circuit in thermal fuse. Tested it with a multimeter first to confirm it had an open circuit. This part is obsolete. Contacted manufacturer and found part supercedes to a different part number Ordered part. (This website is very efficient. The part arrived with the 1.7 day promise time.) new fuse bracket is slightly larger due to supercession. Marked bolt hole locations and drilled new. Installed fuse.
