This is a thin mica sheet that covers the waveguide opening inside the microwave cooking cavity. It protects the magnetron and waveguide from food splatter and moisture while allowing microwave energy to pass through into the cooking area. Replace it if the cover is scorched, cracked, or has burn marks, which can cause sparking or arcing during operation.
Replaced the canopy. Took a few trials to install. Once I realized than you slide the part towards the tabs til it stops and then while pushing up towards the roof pull it back under two metal ears it held it self in place. That was the easiest repair ever. Did not need any tools. Read more

GE Microwave/Convection Oven. Removed case (carefully). Tested in-line power cord fuse with multi-meter. Fuse was good. Noticed a scorch mark on a wire connected to the oven cavity thermal fuse. The fuse appeared to have been overheated from too much movement in it's mount. Removed part from unit and used number on the part to order a new one. Replaced the "Encoder Board". My GE Advantium control panel came of fairly easily. There was 2 screws on top to remove a vent director giving access to a single screw that held the control panel in place. I removed the plastic plate at the top of the microwave (behind the door) by unscrewing two screws with a screwdriver. I then pulled out the old filter, and placed the new one in the designated area. No tools are needed to insert the filter....just a screwdriver to remove/replace the plastic plate. Very simple. Read more
