Microwave won't turn on but turntable rotates? This thermal fuse shuts off power when overheating occurs. Moderate DIY repair taking 2-4 hours.
I contacted Appliance Parts Pros, and told them what the problem was and what it was doing. They sent me an email with the parts number needed to complete the repair. 14 year old GE Profile microwave wouldn't heat, but had power. Read reviews here. Ordered triumvirate of magnetron, capacitor, & diode. Was hoping not to need the capacitor as this was an expensive part; and if not needed to return to AppliancePartsPros, which has been SOP. After watching a couple YouTube videos of microwave capacitors being shorted, I made a capacitor discharge tool ordering 24W 100K Ohm resistor and high voltage test wires w/ alligator clips from amazon. At the same time,... Read more

Turntable stopped rotating or making grinding noise? This motor powers the carousel rotation for even heating. DIY repair in under 15 minutes.
When our turntable stopped rotating, I would hear a clicking sound each time I used our microwave, like something was not properly engaging in order to turn the glass tray. Even though our microwave was 10 years old, everything else worked fine. I did a little research on the internet and found a couple YouTube videos that showed replacing the small motor in the bottom of GE microwaves. I am not a mechanical person, but it looked fairly easy, so I decided to try it. The... Read more

Microwave turntable not turning? The turntable motor rotates the glass tray for even heating. Simple DIY repair with basic tools in under an hour.
Unplug your microwave. Took the screws off of the bottom of the unit with it still on the cabinet. The whole bottom panel swung down to expose the turntable motor. I took the power cable loose (just pull it off). It was one screw to take the motor out. Word to the wise: DON'T try to take the plastic coupler off before the motor. Their is a tab that holds it in while the motor is in place. If you pry it up you will break it, trust me. ;) Turn the motor out of its housing and it come right out.... Read more
Fix a microwave that won't heat or hums but doesn't start. This capacitor stores energy for the high-voltage circuit. Moderate DIY repair, 30-60 minutes.
Wife let me know the microwave was making grinding noise while I was in garage fixing her car starter, never a dull moment. Further questioning she also said it wan't heating the food. Due to being an odd sized built in $$ unit I had to have repaired. I was getting quotes in the $4-500 range for just the magnetron. I was pretty confident the magnetron was the issue and also ordered a new capacitor and diode since I was going to be in there and a lot of money ahead repairing myself. About... Read more

If your microwave turntable won't spin or makes grinding noises, the turntable motor likely failed. Simple fix with basic screwdriver work.
I ordered the replacement motor. I unplugged the microwave. Then I simply removed the turntable spindle by lifting it up off the motor from inside the microwave.
