Jenn-Air Dishwasher Pump

• Will not drain

I've opened sump housing to check for clogging but it was clean. When I removed check valve to inspect it I've found out that the round part of the valve was missing so I figured it might've blocked the water exit at drain hose or something like that. So I pulled the dishwasher out to get a full access to drain hose connector and the pump. ORDERED NEW SUMP AND DIVERTER MOTOR, THE SHAFT ON THE DIVERTER MOTOR FELT A LITTLE ROUGH SO I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED IT, THE SUMP REPLACEMENT WENT FAIRLY EASY. HAD TO MAKE A TRIP TO THE HARDWARE STORE FOR A HOSE CLAMP. ONE HOSE ON THE SUMP HAS A CLAMP THAT IS NOT REUSEABLE. YOU SHOULD ALSO ORDER THIS CLAMP. IT IS NARROW AND A REGULAR HOSE CLAMP WILL NOT WORK. Read more

Pulling the dishwasher, it was obvious we had a slow leak under it. We had a slow leak from the diverter motor area in the sump. Sure enough, it looked like the gasket around a shaft had to be the culprit. The gasket was attached to the sump assembly, or the motor. Dishwasher washer would not drain after hearing glass-like particles during the drain cycle despite trying to clean the cylinder filter. Originally suspected the drain motor was damaged. My dishwasher was leaking and I called to have a certified technician come to diagnose the problem. I removed the kick panel from the bottom of the machine. He turned it on and we saw that water was leaking from the bottom. He said I needed a Sump kit but it wasn't in stock. The cost was $170 plus tax and labor cost was another $140. I think I could have just replaced the pump, but I chose to replace the whole assembly. The part is more expensive, but all the gaskets, etc, that come with it are new and that made sense to change all at once. I was able to change this in about 30 minutes, without removing the washer from the under-counter space. I did remove the front door panel, but in retrospect that was unnecessary and probably cost me more time than it saved. Empty the washer of parts, remove the front access panel.... Read more

Replaced sump because the seal is not sold separately. You will need a skinny clamp after cutting the original swaged clamp off. Also Had to replace the cover as its seal is not sold separately either. Used dish soap on seals during assembly. Read more

Removed and replaced diverter motor. Ops check good, no more leaking. I'm guessing the seal was the problem but diverter ruined (water residue) from leaking over the last 5 years??? This seal is only available if you buy the tub so followed another review - removed diverter then gently pried out the seal, cleaned and then lubed with silicone grease. Also turned the seal 180 degrees or the opposite way before reinstalling the diverter and then wrapping it all back under the counter. Read more

DIY, changed motor and sump. Put a dab of valve lubricant on seal. Wet outer seal of sump to get it to seat in bottom of tub. Cleaned electrical connectors corroded by leak. Coated connectors with dielectric grease. Had to buy additional clamp. Two clamps came in the sump package but both fit the smaller hose only. Neither fit the large hose. I wish the correct clamps were included. Home improvement store clamp is a little too wide to fit between ridges in large hose. Read more

Motor shaft was stripped, replaced with new shaft from Motor Seal Kit. Impeller was also cracked, so replaced it as well. I did run in to a small problem, the chopper blade was pressing against the metal grate on the piece that goes back over the motor seal. I spent about an hour messing with it, but thought maybe once it's all together it'll be fine. When you screw the impeller on, it pushes down the seals, which pushes down the chopper blade. I watched the appliancepartspros.com video to make sure I had identified the right part before I ordered it. After receiving the part, it was easy — the part itself twisted off without tools (pliers were helpful to remove and reattach the drain hose), and I was able to complete the repair without pulling the dishwasher out from under the counter.
