Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Flame to dry clothes would go out after about a minute and wouldn't reignite   Wendell M. • Brown Deer , WI • June 19, 2014

I'm starting with a quick background on my dryer. About 18 months ago the belt on the dryer started slipping and squealing. I had a can of belt dressing spray so I popped the top open and sprayed the belt. It actually worked for about a year before it started squealing again. For the next 6 months I had to spray it more and more often. Then the clothes stopped drying. Obviously, at this point, I had to get off my lazy ass and fix the dryer. Searched my dryer's model number on the internet and... Read more

Kitchenaid Lp Conversion Kit
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 49572A

The LP Conversion Kit is an OEM component for Whirlpool and KitchenAid gas dryers. It allows conversion from natural gas to liquid propane fuel operation. Over time in gas-powered dryers, improper gas/air mixture causes part wear like weakened burner components. This is risky if overlooked but converting to an alternative fuel safely remedies.

Causes relate to unavoidable deterioration from gas combustion stresses. Conversion using this kit prevents hazardous gas leaks or explosions.

Symptoms involve:

  • Diminished or unsafe heat levels from burners
  • Gas leaks which exacerbate safety risks over time

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Kitchenaid Lp Gas Conversion Kit
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W11581317

The Whirlpool LP gas conversion kit is an OEM replacement part responsible for allowing the conversion of a natural gas-powered dryer to operate on LP (liquid propane) gas. This kit contains the orifice, leak limiter, and an instruction sheet to guide the conversion process. Once the conversion kit is installed, it alters the fuel source of the dryer, allowing it to burn LP gas instead of natural gas. This conversion is necessary when a home or installation site lacks access to natural gas and relies on LP gas as the fuel source for heating appliances

Causes for needing an LP gas conversion kit include relocating the appliance to a home with LP gas, or preferring LP gas over natural gas for cooking efficiency or availability. The conversion process involves changing the orifices and adjusting the gas pressure to suit LP gas requirements.

Symptoms that indicate a need for conversion or issues with the current setup include:

  • Improper or uneven flame on the burners
  • Difficulty in lighting the burners
  • Burners not operating at full power
  • Gas smell indicating possible leaks or incorrect gas type

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Natural gas to propane conversion   Jeff D. • Rancho Cucamonga , CA • March 17, 2014

I'm not an appliance mechanic and have never worked on a dryer before, but I have worked as an instrument technician and lightly dabbled in HVAC repairs. We moved from natural gas to a new home with propane, so purchased this kit to make the conversion. By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 280119

This genuine OEM replacement part is a burner and gas valve assembly for dryers. Next, pull the dryer away from the wall to gain access to the back panel. Remove the back panel and locate the burner and gas valve assembly. Remove the mounting screws that hold it in place. After removing the screws use both hands to pull and release the old burner assembly. Set it off to the side and proceed to install the new one by refastening the screws that hold it in place. This replacement part is compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand washers.
