Lg Freezer Defrost Heater
Genuine Lg part
By: Lg
Part Number: 5300JK1005K

The Freezer Defrost Heater is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It plays a crucial role in the defrost system by melting any frost or ice buildup on the evaporator coils. This helps maintain the efficiency of the cooling system and ensures the freezer operates properly.

Over time, the defrost heater can wear out or fail due to continuous heating and cooling cycles, electrical issues, or physical damage. Causes of a bad defrost heater include burnouts, electrical faults, and accumulation of frost that hinders its functionality.

Symptoms of a bad freezer defrost heater include:

  • Excessive frost buildup in the freezer
  • The freezer not maintaining the set temperature
  • The refrigerator running continuously or cycling more frequently
  • Water leaks inside the freezer from melting ice

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

This part fixes the following symptoms
  • Frost buildup
  • Doesn't shut off

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge would not defrost no error codes   Nathaniel C. • Marietta , GA • April 04, 2015

I have had the unfortunate problem of fixing this previously, so knew what to order. I ordered the defrost sensor and heater... and replaced both. Lg Defrost Heater (Sheath), 1 Piece
Genuine Lg part
By: Lg
Part Number: 5300JB1100Q

This sheathed defrost heater mounts at the evaporator and melts frost during the automatic defrost cycle to restore airflow and stable temperatures. Replacing a failed heater helps prevent ice-clogged coils, warm spots, and noisy fan interference.

  • Melts frost from the evaporator coil during the defrost cycle to maintain proper airflow
  • Symptoms of failure: persistent ice on the back panel, weak cooling, or the evaporator fan striking ice
  • A failed heater can cause long run times and temperature swings
  • Replace if the element tests open/short or shows visible damage
Includes: 1 sheathed defrost heater Installation notes:
  • Disconnect power before service; allow components to warm to reduce risk of cracking brittle plastics
  • Remove shelves and the evaporator cover; carefully defrost ice—do not chip or pry against the fins
  • Transfer original clips/insulators if present; route wires as original and make firm electrical connections
  • After reassembly, ensure the drain area is clear and the fan spins freely
