Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refridgerator stopped cooling   Gary S. • Madison , WI • April 13, 2015

Replaced the Thermistor Assembly and also picked up Overload Protection circuit per the comments posted by the "experts" on the web site. Both parts cheap enough. I ordered parts at 3:30 in the afternoon and they showed up the next morning from half way across the country. Outstanding service. It also fixed the 9 year old refrigerator. Replacing the parts took about a half hour most of which was moving the unit from the wall and removing the panel to get at the parts. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lg refrigerator compressor would intermittantly hum and shut down but then start normally minutes later   Don C. • Pearland , TX • July 23, 2016

After watching repair videos, I decided I could order the parts needed and do it myself for less than a service call, not to mention the additional cost for parts markup and installation that a service technician would charge. I am very pleased that I did. I ordered the start relay, overload and capacitor with some help from Ilya at customer service to make sure I was getting the correct replacements. Installation was easy. The hardest thing was contorting my body into a position where I could... Read more

8 y/o LG unit was not cooling or freezing. There was a clicking on the back side every 2-3 minutes. Used these 2 issues in a internet search and top 2 cited problems were dirty coils then bad PTC & OLP. Tool off the back panel, compressor was quie hot. Coils did not look excessively dirty but cleaned them anyway. DId not resolve the problem. The OLP & PTC recommended for my unit. were different than the original TSD and I thought I would have to return the parts. However, I got on a chat... Read more

Research question lead to others that had the same issue. Consensus lead to a common repair. Compressor overload switch going bad. After ordering the correct parts, I changed out both the switch and the motor start capacitor just in case. After cleaning the equipment, I then put everything back together. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lg refrigerator wound not start   Steve S. • Peoria , AZ • May 28, 2016

For an emergency fix I installed a 3 in1 kit disabling the original start cap and wiring in the original run cap to the run winding. Ordered the proper PTC and overload from Appliance Parts Pros and installed them 2 weeks later. The original start and run capacitor were good, rewired back to design specs. The original PTC had pins 1,2 and 3, the replacement had 2,3 and 4. Only wiring change was to install the red wire from pin 1 on the original PTC to pin 4 on the new PTC. Read more
