Whirlpool Fuse Or Sensor

Our dryer seemed to be taking a long time to dry, often needing a couple cycles to complete the job. Then one day it stopped heating at all. After watching a couple videos and testing with a multimeter I figured out not only the thermristor had blown (can happen due to bad airflow) but also half the heating element was shot. I attempted to diagnose the four thermostats/thermal switches in the microwave....two right behind the control panel, one on top of the cooking cabin, and one under a metal shroud above the magnetron. While checking continuity with a voltmeter, i questioned one of them behind the control panel and the one above the magnetron. • No heat or not enough heat

I removed the front panel and observed the heating element while running the dryer. It was cycling off every minute or so and staying off for several minutes. Even though it was likely the high temp cycling thermostat I replaced both the 14, and 15 cycling thermostats which I think are the original factory units. That makes them nearly 35 years old. There are plenty of DIY youtube videos to show you how to replace the parts. I went ahead and replaced more than just the broken parts. I figured if I had the machine opened up, I might as well replace parts that could go out in the future. I might have gone a bit too far with all the other parts. The only part that was really broken was the wiring harness. Two of the wires had corroded from the sockets and there was no other way than to replace the entire harness. Its a bit tricky to feed... FIRST I PULL THE DRYER OUT FROM THE WALL AND TOOK THE BACK OFF. WITH A 5/16 NUT DRIVER. NEXT WITH A LIGHT SET UP I LOOKED FOR ANY BURNT, BROKEN,OR LOSE WIRES THAT MY HAVE COME OFF ANY CONNECTIONS. • Won't start

In addition to blown fuse; the fuse holder was melted at one end. Checked the unit to see if any part or wiring that would cause the issue, none was visible. Referred to wiring diagram included inside to identify components, including interlocks. All seemed functional. Bought replacement 20A fuse. Fuse holder no longer available so bought similar unit with 25A rating - little retrofitting. Put unit back together, and it's working so far. Wife is happy. Read more

I read up on others with this problem of microwave-wall oven combination Whirlpool Gold. We live in a very rural area and were not able to get ANYONE to service it - had 2 companies come out to inspect but they never returned. I have wonderful news! I don't have a multimeter so couldn't check all voltages or resistances on suspect parts. I assumed it had to be the two thermostat units - the thermostat or the dryer cycling thermostat. These were not expensive parts so ordered both and installed both. Very easy to remove back panel and replace with the new parts, making sure the OEM numbers were the same. Following the instructions that I received through the helpful research of the APP staff, I disconnected the power, disassembled the back of the oven, and accessed the hidden element. This involved bending parts of the sheet metal and cutting the insulation, so I was very apprehensive about doing this.
