First went through the troubleshooting guide on the website and read the various stories and watched the repair videos for replacing the springs and suspension pads. Then before ordering any parts disassembled the machine only to the point of removing the cabinet to see if there were any obvious issues. The springs appeared OK but I couldn't tell of they were fatigued or not and all were in place but the tub suspension pads were definitely worn out. I then put the machine back together and went... Dryer won't start or stops mid-cycle? A broken door catch prevents secure closure, triggering safety shutoffs. Simple snap-in replacement, 1 minute.
The very easy diagnosis was motor seizure. Because the machine is about a decade old, I decided to renovate most of the guts. My DIY project included replacing the motor, blower, drum bearing, belt, and door hinge. The end result is a functional dryer with no left-over parts. Lack of parts and hardware challenged the effort. For example, the blower assembly did not have the slide capture for the motor. I had to use the old one which is showing its age. With the exception of the drum... Read more

Shock absorber kit for front-load washers. Includes 2 absorbers, pins, and hardware. Replace when broken, cracked, or worn to restore stability.
I watched the video posted by Jerrod Sessler on yellow van handyman.com. Then I had to unstack the dryer from the washer, remove all covers, disconnect all hose connections, shock mounts and springs and remove the tub assembly. Then I disassembled the tub assembly and remove seal and both bearings from the rear half. At this point I cleaned everything. I installed new bearings and seal, installed the basket and assembled both tub halves using a new gasket and silicone, and reinstalled the... Read more
Dryer won't start or runs with door open? This door switch assembly detects when the door is closed. Easy 10-15 minute repair with step-by-step video.
Background: Roper Electric Dryer model REX6634RQ0 purchased new in early 2006 by my wife. Dryer use profile is low to moderate as it was used by only one person (working from home) from 2006 to late 2007 then moved and stored in a dry basement until mid 2009. Moved and used by primarily just two people (plus occasional children visits) from mid-2009 thru late 2011 with three moves involved with in that time. Then stored in a dry shipping container until moved again in 2013. The multiple... Read more
Dryer won't start or runs with door open? This door switch kit restores safety shutdown function. Simple clip-in repair takes 15-30 minutes. Video included.
The timer knob simply pulls off the shaft with a solid, steady pull. Cleaned the timer cavity of lint/dust buildup. Aligned the keying flat of the shaft and knob and pushed the new knob on with careful, steady pressure until it was obviously seated. No tools required other than a vacuum. The door switch would sometimes not shut the dryer off when the door was opened. New switch came with new fast-on connectors. Replacement required opening the top cover of the dryer and hinging it up. This... Read more
Refrigerator not cooling or freezing? A faulty temperature control thermostat causes inadequate cooling. DIY repair in 5-10 minutes with basic tools.
This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Flexible drain hose carries wastewater from your dishwasher to the kitchen drain. Replace if cracked, leaking, burst, or damaged by wear or pests.
I've opened sump housing to check for clogging but it was clean. When I removed check valve to inspect it I've found out that the round part of the valve was missing so I figured it might've blocked the water exit at drain hose or something like that. So I pulled the dishwasher out to get a full access to drain hose connector and the pump. Upon disconnecting the drain and checking its connector I indeed found the round piece totally blocking the hose and acting as a seal. I removed the piece... Read more
Loud noise or freezer warming up? This evaporator fan blade circulates cold air over coils. Simple DIY fix—most repairs done in under an hour.
The fridge is 20+ years old in a home we recently moved into. It sounded like a motor getting stuck on something or grinding weird... was hoping it wasn't something more serious. Found this site, clicked 'noisy' and got the replacement evaporator fan motor blade as well as the motor evaporator. Turned out I didn't really need to replace the fan blade, but since I had it and ours was old, figured I might as well put in the new parts. Followed the videos here, which were really helpful. The... Read more

Washer making loud screeching or grinding noise during drain or spin? A failed drain pump bearing is the likely cause. DIY repair in 20-60 minutes.
It was a relatively easy fix. Removed the small access panel at the back of the washing machine after unplugging the unit. The pump is right there. Disconnected the two hoses to the pump, catching some water with towels. Removed three retaining screws, then realized I had not disconnected the belt from under the unit. Easy fix, tilted the unit and disconnected the belt. Put in the new pump , connected the hoses, then reconnected the belts. Works like new! Read more
