Kenmore / Sears Dishwasher Parts

Just replaced the things. Had to reuse old tine rows, rollers, the spray arm, etc., i.e. I removed 'em from the old racks and put on the new ones, but that was piece of cake. Also, I cleaned the food grinder and the discharge valve compartment (thank you very ???? ???? much, Internet), so spray arms around the top rack get enough water pressure now. • Will not drain

It is very simple to fix. All the blogs recommend replacement of this part but do not explain why. This is a normally open check valve that permits the water from inside the dishwasher to drain out, either once it gets too high or just general splash. When the machine drains the pump comes on and the check valve closes. If the check valve is damaged or worn (like mine was) some of the water can pump back into the machine. Bought new wheel and the are easy to replace. Found why the brok and did a quick fix so it wont happen again. As the wheels age one will pull off then they all get weak and the rack will come off the track, To prevent this. you can put a plastic tie so the wheels cant fall off in the first place, The disign holds them in place with pressure from the plastic but the plastic ages and gets weak. A tie would have to actually break before the wheel can fall off. Read more

I very seldom respond to requests for feedback like this but definitely feel moved to do so in this case. When our 8 year old dishwasher started acting up my initial reaction was to simply replace it. • Will not dispense detergent

My husband expected we needed a new dishwasher but I insisted on trying to fix it first. You need a Torx screwdriver so make sure you have a set. A little difficult to get cover back on and lined up by myself, but I managed and this was my first attempt at major appliance repair. I replaced the entire console and the dispenser. I originally ordered this part from the KitchenAid website because I assumed I needed to buy the part directly from them since they manufactured my dishwasher. Five minutes after ordering the part from them, I went on Youtube to see if there was a video instructing on the installation of the upper dishrack wheel since I wanted to make sure I installed it correctly. Found the end of the right-side Door Spring that connects to the Door Cable broke off and the plastic end of the Door Cable that connects to the Door Spring was also broken off. Ordered a replacement Door Spring 154579101 and Door Cable 154578801 from AppliancePartsPros.com When the parts arrived a few days later, I watched the video on the AppliancePartsPros. • Door latch failure
• Door won't close

I turned off the power then removed the six or so screws from the back of the top panel. I marked the two front wires on the latch with tape so I would not get them confused. I removed the two screws holding the latch on--these take a six pointed star bit on the screw driver--the bit is in most screw driver sets with interchangeable heads. I watched a video on how to change these. I had ordered one a month ago because one had failed. I had no trouble --less than 30 seconds -- to insert a new for the bad one. Then a few weeks later, a 2nd one failed -- there are 4 of them -- and I figured that I might as well change out the bad one as well as the two "good" original ones. While this is a Whirlpool dishwasher, I have the Kenmore Elite version of it. I believe them to be identical for parts. A little background: The first symptom I had of problems was plastic bits from the ball bearing retainer strips in the slides falling out. Then ball bearings falling out. A common problem with this dishwasher. When disassembling the upper basket, some of the gray plastic pieces were very brittle and easily snapped off. The symptom was suds and water on the floor at the left front of the dishwasher within the first five minutes of operation. Examination of the seal inside the door showed it was warped and pushed up into the door out of place. Once disassembled we found a tear in the seal, severe warping, and the material was sticky and slimy rather than flexible. I found a video of the disassembly that was very helpful.
