The 2 sensors that sit on top of the flame tube work together. The Thrmst F should check closed, as should the Cutoff-TML, in order for power to flow to the ignitor. If the Cutoff is open, it is usually because the Thrmst-F did not open soon enough. The Thermst-F will cycle, closed to open, and repeat, however the Cutoff-HTML is a one time switch. If it opens it will not return to closed, and subsequently the ignitor will not glow. Some professionals say that if one of these sensors fail, both... Read more

Replaced heating element about three months ago. Had to order thermistor because of error code "ts" on display and dryer would not run. Removed the two screws on the back that holds the top in place. After removing the top, remove the screws that hold the control panel on front. Make sure not to break the tabs that help hold it in place You do not have to unplug any connectors for the control panel. Lay control panel across top of dryer carefully so that it will be out of the way. Next... Read more
The Cycling Thermostat is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This thermostat regulates the temperature inside the dryer by cycling the heating element on and off to maintain a consistent temperature. .
Causes of a bad cycling thermostat can include wear and tear over time, electrical faults, or damage due to overheating.
Symptoms of a bad Cycling Thermostat include:
I removed the front panel and observed the heating element while running the dryer. It was cycling off every minute or so and staying off for several minutes. Even though it was likely the high temp cycling thermostat I replaced both the 14, and 15 cycling thermostats which I think are the original factory units. That makes them nearly 35 years old. Problem fixed. Read more
This cycling thermostat regulates exhaust temperature by switching the heater on and off to maintain proper drying heat. Replacing a failed thermostat restores consistent temperatures, helps auto-dry timing, and protects against fabric-damaging overheating.
I went ahead and ordered the element, and the 2 different thermostats not knowing exactly which one might be the problem. My My Maytag opens from the front and it was actually pretty easy to get into. Also gave me the opportunity to vacuum out the inside of the dryer. Pop the top off, remove the wires that connect the door switch (noting the colors and placement), take off the 2 inside nuts that hols the fron on, pull it forward and lift it off, 3 inside screws to take out to inside lint part... Washing machine should have been an easy fix that I had done before but ran into problems with the upper bearing and the bearing diameter on the shaft (a no go situation). By the time I was able to get the bearing seated I had damaged the new bearing. Much to my surprise Cierra in customer service sent me out a new bearing kit. I was then able to get the washer up and running with the new bearing kit and motor stator replacement. The dryer was a matter of replacing all of the electrical... Read more
This multi-temperature cycling thermostat regulates the dryer's drum heat, switching the heater on and off to match the temperature setting you choose. It can help restore consistent drying if temperatures are erratic, loads run too hot, or cycles take too long.
Put both thermostats in as I did not know if the unit was cycling on high limit at times. Fixed both issues plus I used my lawn blower and blew all the lint out of dryer and short 3' hose. I also lubed rear drum bearings. Works like new. Ron R Read more
