I checked for the reasons there was no power to the microwave. Then I talked with the technician at AppliancePartsPros who stated that it was most likely a blown or defective fuse. My LG microwave has two thermal fuses, a fuse assembly with two prongs and a short (1 inch) barrel type fuse. I took the machine screws out of the outer panel for the right side only. Then pull the panel back a bit to release the lips from the front of the machine and had immediate access to the internal assembly that housed mounting nut. Online instructions say to carefully remove the door inner facing in order to acces the handle screws. Easily done with a couple butter knives and some patience. Popped right off. But then there was a 2 piece inner "door" still in the way. Removed two more screws then carefully pried it off the plastic clips and swung out of way. Removed handle screws and old handle. New handle is metal not plastic and uses supplied machine screws. Installed new handle and re-assembled. Read more

Opened up hinged bottom of microwave and saw that the old motor had come loose from its secure position. I decided to replace the old motor with the new one and secured it into place, which was very simple--just a matter of unplugging the old motor's connection; plugging in the new one; securing the motor in place with one screw; closing up the hinged bottom; putting in the new coupler; and checking to see if it works. Ordered new bulbs and sockets. Replaced the old with new and it now works as expected. Just sad that the sockets can't be made to last longer than a year due to the heat they are subjected to above the range. Read more

I ordered the capacitor, diode, and magnetron in hopes that I would be able to complete the repair using the less expensive parts. I first removed the oven from the wall and then I removed the metal housing to access the internal parts. I discharged the capacitor using a pair of insulated needle nose pliers. Then I changed out the diode and the capacitor and reassembled the unit and tested it. It still did not heat so I disassembled the unit again and replaced the magnetron this time.... Read more

Knowing the odds of 2 failures occurring at the same exact time was unusually high, I just searched your site for what other broken items might affect these two failures. Came up with next control item upstream and tallied that item failure with percentages of successful repairs, (4 mins.) door safety switch. Replaced lower door interlock bracket, cam(which was redesigned), spring(I believe this was the problem) and switch. When the door opens the spring moves the cam which releases the switch"on" Button which turns on the interior light when you close the door, the latch which protrudes out from door pushes into the cam which rotates to turn off the light switch and enables operation of the microwave. I attempted to diagnose the four thermostats/thermal switches in the microwave....two right behind the control panel, one on top of the cooking cabin, and one under a metal shroud above the magnetron. While checking continuity with a voltmeter, i questioned one of them behind the control panel and the one above the magnetron.
