After years of frustration I decided to see if there was reasonable solution to not buying a new cooktop - it sounded ridiculously simple so why not, I replaced the burner caps. I spent $ — AND I HAVE A NEW STOVE.
It now works like I’d expect a functional stove to work: it boils large quantities of water (1 liter +) in a reasonable amount of time, pans heat quickly and evenly, to the point where I am having to adjust my timing and cook temps. I’m burning oil…because pans are getting hotter...

First thing, turn off the gas.
On this model stove, there are five burners-two burners in the front, two in the back and one in the middle. The front two burners are different than the other three, they are the largest burners. You can use a 11/32 socket with an extension to go down the middle hole of the burner and screw-out the natural gas orifices.
