It's important to know your model number first. Then go to YouTube and watch the video on how to remove the power board. (It's located in the front, under the freezer. Once removed, look inside the old power board for the part number. You will now find the part to repair. This is a 30 minute repair. We have had no problems and the part worked perfectly. At first I read the error code as 5Y CE. Googled that and found a number of distressed pleas for the same interpretation. Finally I found a technician/interpreter of mysterious codes who enlightened me: SY CE means there is a communication error between the display board and the main power control board.
Meanwhile, we had unplugged it, waited 10 or 15 minutes, then plugged it back in, The refrigerator responded like a computer reboot and started working again. No error code! We bump knuckled...

Evaporator fan would not run. I replaced the evaporator fan, but that did not fix it until i replaced the main board (power board). the board is underneath on the left side with one screw holding it. I figured there was only one main board but there are multiple; you have to read descriptions to get the correct one.

Bought new optic control boards, both the emitter and the receiver. The repair process was so simple. The KitchenAid repair tech came out to diagnose our issue. He was only going to come back and install a new emitter. They wanted a lot of money to do the repair. They were going to charge us $257 just for the part (emitter board). We bought both boards for $300 from AppliancePartsPros. We decided to replace both boards, because if one went bad the other might not be far behind.
