Refrigerator Motor

After a lot of research on internet we thought it might be the condenser fan motor . we were a but confused as frig still working and cooling. I had imagined if motor gone bad it would just stop . However on taking back off frig we could see fan sometimes slowed and then began loud "animal " squeaking noise ! I first watched U-Tube tutorials for an hour that addressed the defect and demonstrated the typical repair formats. There could be 4 separate components that required careful testing to determine which part had failed. I called GE service and they sent a technician to inspect my refrigerator and diagnose the problem and identify the defective component which was the evaporator fan motor. After noticing that the fan was not going on with the compressor, I used a small fan to cool the compressor until I got the new fan at which time I replaced the defective fan and the problem was solved. Read more

I removed the fresh food ice maker found the drain tube for ice maker frozen. This was causing the back of the unit to rust out. This also caused the water to run down the back of the unit the into the duct work and into the freezer causing ice buildup. I then defrosted the freezer removed the rear duct work and the freezer drain pan cover. I found the freezer drain was not draining. Determined that the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment was not running properly and making noise. Ordered a replacement evaporator fan and blade. Removed the freezer door, baskets, and side rails. Removed the back panel of the freezer compartment by unscrewing and disconnecting the power cable connected to the fan. Removed fan blade. After tossing a couple for refrigerators to clean the storage area - we had one good one left taken from an apartment where the resident bought a newer-bigger one. Another resident's went bad - froze in the freezer - but 65 F in the lower refrigerator unit. Originally thought it was the evap fan motor, possibly the control board. Turns out it was the latter but only way to know for sure was to replace fan first. Shipping was fast and the parts were good. Read more

I had found that the fan in the freezer was making a lot of noise. Turns out the shaft was loose, causing the flan blade to wobble. Replaced the motor and fan and now it runs like a new unit. Read more

• Freezer section too warm

1. Unplug the power, 2. Removed the shelving and Ice maker including power cord, 3. Removed the air flow conduits, 4. Removed the back panel, 5. Removed evaporator fan housing and drop down then un clip power supply and remove evaporator fan housing and all and set on a flat surface, 6. Remove the upper bracket holding in evaporator and remove evaporator fan ( be sure to remove the fan blade you'll need it for the new motor ) 7. Ordered parts, removed top tray in freezer, popped the back inside freezer panel out removed and replaced fan, dampers and fan housing. Took about 15 minutes. Read more

I watched videos to diagnose the noise coming from my refrigerator, then watched videos on how to replace the part, then I ordered the replacement part which came very promptly. The part works perfectly. I am a 73-year old woman, and found this was an easy fix, even on a bottom freezer model refrigerator.
