After taking the two vegetable drawers out from above, the glass shelf, the pantry drawer and the cross support for the glass, you can get to the two recessed hex head screws holding the end cap. You will need to transfer the metal drawer slide to the new cap, but it doesn't need to come off first. When the end cap is loose, gently rotate it toward the front. The indication was that when I tried to use the icemaker or water dispenser, the green LED on the front would dim and the ice maker dispenser wouldn't work. It was intermittent at first, but this indicated it may be a power management issue, in that insufficient voltage was getting to the ice dispenser motor. • Ice maker dispenses too much ice

Ice sensing lever (keyed onto mtr shaft) found down and would not budge. Also, test button (hidden beneath mtr) only 'beeped' when pushed. The 10 pin connector's 'clip' is also hidden against roof of freezer - mine broke but connection still seems secure. New unit was exact fit - test button (now) cycles thru one cycle of rotation and H2O fill with no beeps.... 18 hrs later, bin is half full....ice for the summer :) Remove freezer door (front) so you can lay down and look up. Replaced fan motor, temperature sensor and defrost thermostat. Note: I had to replace connector on new defrost thermostat. Connector on new part did not fit mating connector in refrigerator.. spliced in old connector for new one. Read more

Unplugged refrigerator and removed access panel from back of fridge. Have had this panel off many times for dust removal. Panel is a cheap piece of glorified cardboard on this Whirlpool model, which is a shame given that it was a $1000 refrigerator. After reviewing the 'how to' video on AppliancePartsPros.com, I unplugged the refrigerator and removed the back cover to access the motor. I then unplugged the wiring and removed the bad motor. I cut the clip plug and wired it to the new motor, installed the fan blade from the old motor and re-installed the new motor. • Ice maker dispenses too much ice

Ice Door Kit, Control Bracket, and Ice Dispenser Guide were purchased. I followed two videos on replacing the parts. The Control Bracket WP2180226 / AP6005965, was straight forward and I discovered a snapped pin on the old bracket causing an electric switch to be out of place... that repair was easy. When it came to the hinges of the ice chute, I discovered the snap-in, on right side, of the hinge was cracked... this is why the pin escaped. This cracked part is molded into the entire... Replaced broken handle support bracket (part #AP5620448) and cap (part #AP5620751). Used a phillips head screwdriver and allen wrench. Pliers also came in very handy. If replacing cap and support bracket, be sure to install cap before support bracket, otherwise you'll have trouble installing the cap. I ended up not needing to replace the fixer handle (part #AP4372038), but I'll keep it around just in case. Read more
