Range / Cooktop / Oven Glass Top Or Cook Top

Had an estimate from an appliance repairman for $650 that included a new cooktop for $350 and two hours of labor. I bought the cooktop from appliance parts pro for just over $200. My new cooktop cartridge for my Jen-Air cook range works great. The range is probably around 40 years old. The old two-burner cartridge just plain wore out! It is an easy job if you are good with screw driver and some general sense of things. Unplug the oven and than I opened the oven door and unscrewed two screws from bottom lift the glass door up and unscrewed the element coils total 4 screws there in total and pull the whole glass top out, removed the bracket from old glass top another 2 screws and 2 small brackets(snap on) from behind the glass top and put them on new one. slide the new glass top with back brackets into slot lift it up again to... VERY simple fix- you do not even have to pull the range out.. I ordered a new cooktop from Appliance parts Pros. The customer sales rep Alphonso was great and walked me through the general process. I could find no explicit instructions for the repair but I muddled my way through. The fix is simple on Kitchenaid/Whirpool slide in ranges. 1. Once you are resigned to disconnecting the exhaust fan system under the range so you can remove the range from the surrounding counter, the rest is easy. once out, its 8 screws to remove the top and 8 screws to remove the heating elements, and 2 simple wire conneop back onto the stovectors. I turned off the breaker to the Cook top, I then got under the counter and pushed the cook top through the opening in the counter, placed the cook top over the opening on the counter to stabilize it and then I used a Phillip head screwdriver removed all the screws , lifted the broken glass and put on the new glass, replaced the screws, placed the cook top back into the opening on the counter and turned back on the breaker.
