Looked for obvious signs of mal-function, burned wires, etc. I found that the compressor controller(attached to the compressor) had an obvious burned-out spot. Took a chance that was the problem (it was); ordered all new OEM parts, including a new timer and run capacitor (a part that kicks in every time the compressor starts). Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer from maybe 15 years ago. Based on the fact the the smell was only in the dryer, I concluded it must be the gas valve failing to completely seal when closed. Walk into the kitchen on 21 Sep. Eight year old Frigidaire refrigerator appears to be short cycling, controls are nonfunctional. Unplug it for a few minutes, plug it back in, appears to return to normal function. Return to kitchen half hour 45 minutes later it's short cycling again. It was easy to find the part on appliance parts pros. Once I found it I studied the diagram and determined that there were 3 screws in the drum that needed to be removed. I disconnected power and then removed 3 interior screws. Once I did that I removed the back cover and removed the single screw on the bottom side of the air duct that held it in place connected to the heat tube. I then reversed disassembly. I had a friend and a repair guy tell me it was the start relay that needed to be replaced, which was an easy fix. My friend said just to unplug the start relay, replace it with the new one, and it should be good. I've never tried to repair a fridge, and that was the easiest repair ever. This repair could have killed or maimed me -- really! Left door spring snapped. Online search, APP was only source with both door spring and linkage. Discovered link for APP repair-instruction video (not very well marked on parts page). This well-done video really helped build my confidence.
